About Hierogylphic Canyon Area:
| Located in the center of the Supes southern side. This large Canyon is a popular area due to the good display of Hieroglypics at the trail's end. The Spires are not exactly in Hieroglyphic Canyon, but on the western slope of the unamed canyon immediately east of it. The approach is rough and mostly off-trail. Recommended route: From Hieroglyph Tr. parking lot take the new Lost Goldmine Tr. east along the Wilderness Area boundary till you have a solid view of Vertigo Spire as it sits around the east corner. From here leave the trail and attempt as straight a line as possible while contouring as neccessary below the cliffs. Figure on bushwhacking through very rugged and vertical terrain with some route finding dilemas along the way. Consevatively plan significantly more than the "one hour" approach time published in the "Rock Climbing Arizona" guide book. |
