About Superstition Mountains:
| Bolting ban still exists in all of Superstition Wilderness. Bolting is not allowed. Some of the routes here were bolted in the 1960s so discretion in using fixed anchors is advised. The soft volcanic rock has to be tread lightly and can also be nearly as hard as basalt. Protection such as nuts, hexes and cams are usually sufficient but your skill and judgement will serve you well. Known as an adventure climbing wilderness on the east end of the Valley, it has a vast potential for exploration. Climbs range from bolted sport routes,often sporty due to their early development in the emergence of sport climbing, to multi-pitch spires. The trad routes demand excellent route finding and the ability to find adequate protection in soft rock. That is where the Superstitions Mtns reign supreme. |

| Directions: | From Phx take hwy 60 east to Tomahawk Road, go north to hwy 88; turn right towards Lost Dutchman State Park. For Hieroglyphic Canyon area, continue east on hwy 60 and head North on Kings Ranch road and find your way through the maze of roads to parking at the east end of Cloudview. For Peralta, continue East through Gold Canyon to Peralta Trails road (follow signs North onto FR 77). |
