Description:

Pillar in the Sky Pond district (Glacier Gorge Trailhead) of RMNP that offers superior views and sketchy ascents from its tiny alpine summit. Watch the weather, and DO NOT forget your helmet. Scree and debris falls consistently down the trough, which is often utilized as a descent route. Backcountry permits are required to bivy in the Sky Pond district. No tents allowed, and the rules are definitely enforced. This is becoming a very popular alpine route in RMNP.

did the 9plus variation. it was easy. more like 5.8 and better than the slab climb around. watch out for thunder storms and get rap beta. i advise using the rap route.

Awesome route and highly recommended. There are some runout spots but the crux is fairly short and has 3 fixed cams plus additional pro opportunities. Get an early start - we caught up to 2 parties and spent an hour waiting around.

Also, the new raps are preferable to the loose gully. Check out climbingboulder.com for a good description of the 6 rap descent.

What a trip! Best climbing yet by far, minus the two sleet/snow storms we had--one waited out 2 pitches from summit, and one on top with lightning hitting peaks around us. Needless to say we were running around on top trying to throw our ropes down and get the heck off. What a day.
