About Precipice:

The true Precipice is above the parking lot on the loop road by that name. This area is closed for pretty much the entire climbing season (from April 1 - August 31 or the Park says so) due to Peregrine falcon nesting, please respect this closure. This section is not included in the Butterfield Acadia climbing guidebook because of the long closures, though there are some quatilty routes on the faces in the area surrounding the hiking trail. Ask the locals for details. The face, almost 1000' tall, also can have some wild alpine routes in rare conditions in harsh winters.

The area with developed climbs, and is always open, is the South Wall, listed as sections of the 'Precipice (S. Wall)'. Please add new routes to the proper section there.

Approach: Pull about 100 yards past the Precipice Parking area and park in the right lane. On a busy day you should see cars parked along here, otherwise look for a climbers trail in the woods. Be sure to register at the kiosk on your way in.
