About Wolf Ridge-Mystical Mountain Zone:

The Wolf Ridge/Mystical Mountain climbing areas (Wolf Lake Set, Mystical Mountain Zone, & Jericho Wall) are part of the North Shore NO Chalk Zone and are mostly on private land. The main landowner is Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center (WRELC) and the logical approach is to park in their visitor parking area and hike in on their trails. WRELC is friendly to climbers so please abide by the following rules to KEEP them friendly... You are climbing at your own risk here and WRELC assumes NO responsibility or liability for climbing activities on their property. 1.) Chalk is NOT to be used ANYWHERE in these areas. 2.) Park ONLY in the Visitor Parking area. Cars parked on Co. Rd. 6 or on their driveway/road will be towed. 3.) Check IN and OUT at the WRELC Administration building every day that you climb at these areas. The staff will inform you of updates on access, trails, or falcon closures. If the office is closed, leave a note with your name, number in your party and a description of your vehicle. 4.) Wolf Ridge staff will not come looking for you if you do not check out but please do so as a courtesy to them. 5.) Wolf Ridge is a "day use" area and there is no overnight parking or camping on their property. 6.) Please respect the natural environment; keep to the established trails, minimize erosion, and don't liter. 7.) Please cooperate with and respect the staff and students at WRELC. 8.) Commercial/guided groups must consult with and get prior permission from WRELC before taking groups to these climbing areas. 9.) Swimming is at your own risk and the beach is only available for climber use if there are no Wolf Ridge students are present... Camping is not allowed at Wolf Ridge however, there are many campgrounds, state parks and resorts along Hwy. 61 and in Finland. In an emergency, dial 911. Also please inform the WRELC staff. There is a phone in the Wolf Ridge office, otherwise the nearest public phone is at the grocery store in Finland, or back on Hwy. 61 at the Tettegouche State Park rest area parking lot. (Portions of this description taken from the Falcon Guide)
Nearest town or city: Little Marais / Finland
Directions: Take Hwy. 61 north (northeast) of Duluth, through Two Harbors and Silver Bay to Little Marais and take a left (west) on Lake County Road 6 for 4.3 miles and take a left on the Wolf Ridge road. This road is about 2.5 mile east of Finland. Drive SLOWLY up this gravel road for 2.5 miles to the "Visitor Parking" area and check in at the Wolf Ridge office. Be aware that there are often school age children hiking along the gravel road. DO NOT park anywhere along the gravel road as Wolf Ridge WILL have you towed. From the parking lot, walk back down the road about 100 yards to the sharp curve and take a left on the trail. Follow the signs to the "Lake Study Area". Staying ON the trails is essential for continued access for to the crags in this area. Pass the canoe dock and the swimming area and come to the "Lake Study Area". Cross a bridge over the stream. This is about 20 minutes from the car and the hikes to the cliff areas are described from here.
