Brazilian Female Solo Ascent
Karina Filgueiras, a Brazilian climber recently performed the first female solo ascent opening of a Brazilian route. The route was named "Transbaú" (7a).
The route is 900ft long and requires 8 pitches to be climbed. At this length it is the longest route on the north face of Pedra do Baú, located in São Paulo, southeast Brazil.
Pedra do Baú is a popular climbing destination and is the highest rock face in the state.
Three weeks were spent in the project with much of the time revolving around preparation for the climb where supplies and equipment brought to the area. A few days were spent climbing the wall itself and the ascent was completed on the 07/08/2011.

So she bolted an 8 pitch route, on lead, with a self-belay in 3 weeks?? That is fast, although the rock looks pretty clean. Bravo, well done. |

Yeah, that drill looks heavy--she needs to learn how to re-rig it so the battery pack can stay below and the drill is a lot lighter. |

Are we encouraging bolt happy ascents here? How about hooking? In 3 weeks, you probably could have learned how to operate drill and learn aid to do any 8 pitch route. |

Explaining some doubts about the route: The Transbau was totally free-climbed , mostly proteted with gear like camalots and nuts, there are only 20 bolts on the 900ft route, ( except the belay stations mostly bolted). The topo of the route is available at http://www.brasilvertical.com.br/images/stories/TRANSBAU/croqui%20via%20transba%20d3%205sup%20viia%20e3%20280m%20por%20karina%20filgueiras%20%20em%20solitrio%20bv.pdf Thanks for everyone. I think this is cool! : ) What does the name Transbaú mean |

Transbaú it´s a name that I create, giving an idea that it´s a route that goes thrugh all the lenght of the wall. Baú is the name of the wall. Karina |
