So yesterday, Dev, myself, and Nick climbed over at ragged.

WITH GIRLS!

yeah, that's right! In your face suckers!

Idancewithclams, aka Marie, and her friend Heather met up with us in the mid afternoon and made it even easier to enjoy the beautiful weather along with some of the best climbing in CT.

Round 1:
Marie started off leading wet wall, and quickly complained about how easy it was. Devin quick work leading the right side of weisner slab while nick complained about why he didn't get to lead it. Then he was the 20 foot runout, and understood. I lead Wiesner crack, and as usual, was scared out of my eggs. I wonder if i'm ever going to get used to this trad thing.

Round 2:
We set up a toprope on some 5.9/5.10 (not sure of the name, something about weasels maybe?). I'm not even sure how hard it is, but i think we all need to start climbing harder stuff. We're never going to onsight 5.15 at this rate. Marie and i both gave that a go, while devin lead Vector and Nick and Heather followed. I wasn't there to see it, but i'm told he did a hell of a job. I don't doubt it.

Round 3:
Nick decided that he wanted to leave for class. What a nerd. (How totally responsible of you. We're proud.)

It started to get dard, so we got on some things that are less committing. Heather lead Wiesner slab, I assume with beauty, grace, poise, and confidence. Definitely a good lead to start out the season. Devin followed her, with no arms! And no legs! I'm not sure how he got up without them, some sort of full body worm perhaps? Marie and I decided that whichever of us could eat more of the broken Zima bottle at the base of the climb would lead main street. I passed. She ate a bunch of the glass anyway to prove how hardcore she was, and then free solod the climb and set the anchor on a single RP. Way hard core.

All in all, not a bad day.

ps. some of that stuff isn't true.

Check out this really old guide to Ragged Mtn.

http://haskell.cs.yale.edu/jcp/ragged/ragged.html

some of the grades are really interestingly different then what they are now.

Hey, Devkrev or Dudemanbu, are either one of you (or both) available to climb ragged Friday morning?? I'm not sure about the weather I really need to get out a climb. I've yet to climb outside this year.

Trip Report....okay, its just spray:

Yesterday Dudemanbu and myself headed over to Cathole, cause I had a monkey to get off my back. We started on Golden Corner to warm up, it was a fun climb. Then I led Pegasus, after which i was feeling pretty good about onsighting, then Dudemanbu was all like "I'm gonna put you to SHAME BIOTCH!!" and onsighted White Fandango, it was awesome. So all and all we had a pretty high quality day.

um...SPRAY, SPRAY, SPRAY

More like you goaded me into leading it so we wouldn't have to toprope anything. But all the same. good day.

chris, whadya think of cathole?
yesterday my friends aaron and dana and i went to rattlesnake and toproped some fun routes. i'd only ever bouldered there before (at will warren's den). it's not spectacular but you get sun, a nice view, no crowds, and relatively short climbs up to 5.11; with bouldering you could make a great full day out of it.

Yeah, i like rattlesnake. The green wall area is great for top ropes, and rattlesnake itself has a few nice leads as well.

I liked cathole. I could see what devin meant about it though, it's definitely got limited leads, especially under 5.8.

White Fandango (5.9+ in the book.. at times it definitely felt at my "just barely strong enough not to fall" limit) had great moves at the bottom, and great moves at the top, but kinda dirty/hard to protect moves on not so positive holds in the middle. At one point the only thing stopping me from a ledge fall was a shitty number 3 stopper equalized to a shitty blue alien. Luckily by that point the moves had gotten fairly easy (though i was still pumped from the overhanging fingercrack stemfest that was the start).

Pegasus looks like a ton of fun to lead, and the entire time i was following in the corner, i kept eyeing the crimps on the right side as their own possible line. I'd also like to climb the arrete to the left. I'll probably go back there a few more times.

Oh yeah, I'm a girl. Does that make a difference? haha

That doesn't make a difference. There's a group of us that climb every tuesday, some thursdays/fridays, and most weekends. We hang out in this thread.

Hmmm. Cool. Anyone up in the UConn area - Wolf Rock? Or at Pinnacle? And do people mind setting up beginner routes when they are doing some much more advanced stuff?

We will do even better, we will teach you to set your own TRs. There will be no giving of fish here.
We mostly climb around Central Connecticut because thats where most of the best climbing is.
