Yo, if ya cant find good climbing in Colorado then where do you climb  The gathering suggestion for the old folks was for one weekend and the gathering for everyone (i.e. all ages) for the next. I want to go to both so why not stay in Colorado and do some real climbing during the week days between the two. Best of both worlds.

How about June 2005. WE can have the old geezers (over 50?, or 45?) on the 17th -19th and the Colorado Contingent (no age limit) the following weekend (24th through 27th) with some hard core alpine climbing or bigwall climbing inbetween.

Cool ... June would be great! I've only climbed at the Garden of the Gods and it was in the seventies. Where will we be climbing? I'll be more then happy to be someones second ... never done "real" Trad before ...

There's only one real place to climb in Colorado for a 'Geezer's Gathering'.

Eldorado Canyon.

With all respect to 'The Park'. Eldorado is also closer to the microbrewery next to Neptunes. :)

The only problem I see with Eldo is there is no camping. Although I am old and decrepit I still manage to sleep on the ground  . My vote is for some place camping is available, makes for a more communal weekend too! Lumpy, S. Platte, Shelf, or even Penetente.

Great choices Logman :!: Shelf is a great place for us flat landers to get used to the alttitude and get a lot of routes in in a hurry. How about Turkey Rocks as another alternative to choose from, is camping available there yet?

A geezer gathering must have a theme, assuming anyone can remember route names by the time June rolls around, here are some possibilities:

Eldo
- Over the Hill
- The Bulge
- Funeral March
- Grandmother's Challenge
- Shades of Gray
- Three Old Farts Young at Heart

Bould Canyon
- Aging Time
- Beano Hangover
- Men in Tights
- Mr. Sandman
- Nightcap

Clear Creek Canyon
- Generation Gap
- Old Man River

Lumpy Ridge
- Climb of the Ancient Mariner
- Living Dead
- Visual Aides
And the all time best route name in Colorado: **drum roll please**
- Magical Chrome Plated Semi Automatic Enema Syringe

Everyone can thank me later. No, really.

Tracy, chopped liver, NEVER. What am I is a question you must answer yourself. I could make a cpl flirtatious attempts but they would be inadequate. Looking forward to meeting you. Don't forget the marshmallows. I would climb with you too, if you take me up something easy.

Marge, You bring the coctails, I'll help you drink them. If you climb easy enough maybe we could tie ourselves together.

Eldo is a nice place to climb. I have been out there climbing, just not for a cpl. years. I used to stay at a friends house. I don't think there's any camping around. I think a place we can camp for the weekend would be nice. I would come for both weekends if that happens.

Dingus,

Just stumbled on to this - my partner and I are definitely looking for gigs that will keep motivating us to stay in shape now that Epi is behind us. This sounds like a good idea to me. I'd vote for Eldo but will leave that to you organizers to decide. I have a brother in Castle Rock so somewhere south would be fine as well.

I also like the doing an FA idea - was that FA as in "how many gathered old guys does it take to put up an FA..." or "how many FA's can a gathering of old guys put up..." I suppose that depends entirely on how much ganjatol you bring!

Count me in and I suspect my partner as well. Any idea on when the details might firm up...?

I just stumbled on this thread and am outraged that you would so lower the bar to include someone in his/her 50's in a Geezer Gathering. I'm sitting here watching a Public Television (KCET) special on the Carpenters and remembering ... ah, Karen ... What was I saying? Oh, yeah, you geezer wannabes. I propose that the 50-something kids host a weekend of ropegun services for us 60+ real geezers. According to the RC.com age survey there are 3 of us. (btw, a "geezer" is defined by the OED as "a term of derision applied to elderly persons.")

Then elderly, at dictionary.com, describes elderly as: "Being past middle age and approaching old age ...". If 50 is not past the middle of your years on this planet, then please, let us all know what you're doing right!

Anyway, I'm not sure if all us under 60 Geezers can pull anyone up a rock! :P Nice try ... Can't wait!!

OK. I guess I'll have to revise "geezer wannabes" to "geezer noobies."
No need to "pull." Just a little "tension" will do.

Well, it'll be sometime in June. That's about all the commitment us old farts can make at this point in time!

skibabeage,

Not to be a drag, but is there anything we can do to help the planning along? Some of us are still pre-retirement workwise, [eventually] met extravagently tolerant women so have wives who need to know, and were late starters so have kids in school - and in this sorry state we need to get some dates on the books soon so everyone else in our lives can figure out when to party in our absence...

Where is less of an issues as when, but where would be good to pin down as well.

[ Oh, that and Dingus will need the time to arrange for a big ganjatol production run and that stuff needs to be administered within a day or to of harve...I mean manufacture (not to mention putting the development of ganjagra on a fast track). ]

I personally can make it any time in June, I just need to let others know so if you guys can pound out a date the works for most everyone then that will be good for me.

Any idea how many folks we might be talking about? Between PDX and MSP I suspect we can round up 4 or 5 (double that if the Smith contingent gets wind of it...).

Again, I'd vote for Eldo, but Garden of the Gods does have better wheel chair access...

Eldorado is fine for climbing, but it’s basically an urban park with no camping and not suitable for a gathering such as this. Lumpy Ridge has the problem of where do people gather at the end of the day. The campgrounds are spread out. You might want to consider Vedauwoo just over the border in Wyoming. Paid and free camping and a suitable variety of climbing (5.2-5.13) with fairly easy access. Also good for people with small kids: not much loose rock and no poisonous snakes. For those who don’t want to camp, Laramie is 16 miles away.

No offense, but I have to admit I'd be flying in for the climbing and in that neck of the woods Lumpy is a bit more altitude than this flatlander is up for on a quick visit and Vedauwoo would be way, way down on my list of areas to hit...

I and my friends mainly climbed Eldo and Boulder Canyons - I could never handle the prospect of those classic lines at Vedauwoo because everyone I met that had just come from climbing there had used up four rolls of tape and had all these little square tears down the length of their [new] blue jeans...
