I've decided to join in to the fun for Saturday and Sunday. What's the best spot to meet up as I'll be traveling alone from Maine and looking at arriving around 10am?

Some beta for the Crawford team.

Though it's been about two months since I went into the slabs there was a log down to cross the Saco. Head east from the Wiley slide lot to a point almost even between the slide lot and the Info parking lot, (200 yrds +/-). Look for a peninsula or a sharp bend in the river. There should be a yellow birch stretching the river. It's not noticeable from the road. From there head straight back (maybe angling to the left) for the drainage, eventually you'll see the tape in the trees.

Well now that I think about it perhaps enough razzing and I could be persuaded to show y'all.

I have a rope and a rack, and mostly trad draws.

How much convincing do you need, lol... Thanks for the beta and you are more than welcome to join. We are meeting at 8am in one of those parking areas at Crawford. Not sure about cell service, but mine is 603-817-6707.

If you come up Friday Night or Saturday Morning you'll see a bunch of us camping across the street from the main parking area, come on over and introduce yourself.

What's your excuse? Let's hear it!

well two reasons, really:

1. this is my GF's birthday weekend. she doesn't climb, though we've hiked and biked together. she's expressed a small interest in trying it out (and serendipitously a pair of unclaimed foundling shoes I have happen to fit her), but I'm gonna let her come it herself, y'know? climbing is my thing, not hers. but ultimately, its her B-day weekend, so she gets to pick what we're gonna do.

2. well before the current ruckus was firmed up, I commited to running the sound for the Milford Performing Arts Center production of Peter Pan, the performances are friday thru sunday. I have an apprentice/helper who's gonna rrun the show saturday night and suinday matinee, so that Pam and I can maximise our contiguous weekend time.

and that's the scoop.

I will be heading up to the pemigewasset region before my summer guitar lesson schedule starts up again though, so I'll be expecting plenty of trail updates from the crawford notch epic crew.

Rob, I hope you and the GF have a wonderful weekend! We will be thinking of you as we get lost in the sun. -Todd

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Southwest wind between 3 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: A slight chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 50%

I don't ever believe the weathermen/women in New England. Especially in the area that we are going. It is hard to predict things and the forecasting models are always all over the place

We are bailing. The weather forcast is too iffy when driving 600 miles to get there. I will miss getting to see some of you again and meet some of you for the first time. Maybe next year. I might make it up again this fall. If the weather is nice all weekend, that will be my loss. I know you will still have fun.

Does any body know if there are any Bike trails in the area? I am thinking of bringing my Cannondale Bicycle to cruise around the area after climbing or if the rock is to wet . Are the roads Narrow or is there a good shoulder to ride on ? any info would be appreciated .And would a bike be a good way to get to some of the other crags in the area ?

The roads look to be bike friendly. There are a lot of bikers. There are also bike trails off the Kancamangus highway (exit 32?) off Rte. 93. I can recommend a really great one that used to be a railroad and leads to a swimming hole area. I think it'scalled Franconia Falls? I can get more info to you later or when I meet you at the ruckus.

There are a few bike trails in the area. The roads are your typical paved country lanes, rolling and scenic. A bike is handy if want to peddle in to town to get food/ beer. No need for a bike to get around the cliffs.

Oy.. i'd be doubtful on the pets.. they have a few dogs and a donkey and they may not want people bringing their own pets. The lab Molly is pretty defensive of the place around people .. i can't imagine how she'd feel about other dogs.

Rumney is a tough place for dogs anyway.. steep trails.. some involving fixed ropes and some scrambling.

Ben i have no idea what to do... it's looking sketch and i'm afraid of driving 3 hours for a bunch of wet rock. There are alot of these people who i haven't climbed with in a while and would really like to but it's looking like too big of a gamble

Hey Jake, weather looks great to me! Saturday = small chance of showers in the afternoon only. Sunday probably rain at some point in the afternoon. Temps in the 70s both days. Dude, that's pretty damn good!

GO
