Called the Doc (real doc, not PhD, JD, or Feelgood), and hopefully will get an appt in the next day, before I fly out to Yewtaw. If not, I may just have to bring out the needlenoezes, bite down on a stick, and yank the fucker out. That would probably be a good idea.

Or not!

Makes me glad that I don't have pins in mine

Trust me, as soon as the Doc sez it's ok, he's gonna make like a grenadier and pull the pins.

When I did mine, the trauma surgeon sewed them back together. Said that they were an absolute mess. Not a clean tear in any of them. Sewed the tendons that attach to the smallest three toes together to give more support. Of course when I had to have my second surgery, the foot and ankle specialist was mortified and re-did it all. Seperating them all. I now have a lot of scar tissue that hurts like hell when I do most anything. Hope yours turns out to me nothing but a temporary annoyance with no lasting impact.

Ugh, yeah, I hope mine is not that bad. Now another one of the pins is hurting and threatening to break through.

Ortho surgeons are generally pretty quick about hardware complications. Just whisper the word Osteomyelitis and they jump.
The important question: did you keep the pin?

Naw, I got to see it, took a pic, but i don't really have attachment to those kind of things (and it came out so easily that it was not attached to me, huh huh). Was not super impressive, only about an inch and a half long.

wrong. My bones are apparently strong like bull. I broke my left leg in three places - one being the knee. Blew out both knees. Tore all the tendons on the top of the right foot. And separated the right shoulder really well. But no hardware. I do not set off metal detectors.

Nathan has a femur rod.

And I somehow feel like Mo should be included on this list, even if none of her hardware is internal.

Oh yeah, was that from Nathan's meatdecking?

From getting caught between an ATV and a tree.

Gerks point and laff while you cry the real tearz?

Meanwhile, you better douse the whole fucking area where your pin is popping out in a tube and a half of some kinda triple (do they make quadruple?) antibiotic. Else whatever funky foot cheese that likes living under bandages on a foot is gonna get in there and run rampant. And I dunno if you've got what it takes to run with team gimp on a permanent basis. They'll kick yer azz.

Nah, you better take care of that thing while you have the chance. Antibiotics are your friend. Serious cat is serious.

GO

Thanks for the really nasty imagery

The foot cheeze got to you, but the exploding penis was just like "meh"? Yikes!

In other news, I am so glad I never went to grad school. I just started attending my first ever (and probably last) graduate level class right now. Just kinda to pad the resume. But holy crap, I'm only on the first assignment, and I want to throttle the professor. The amount of tedious drudgery required is depressing. Kudos to y'all who managed, you sick mofos.

GO

The exploding member would get to you much faster than it would me. I wouldn't feel any pain, but you would have phantom pain just thinking about it. Makes perfect sense to me. Besides, the foot cheese comment reminds me of when mine got infected after a similar injury. Only I had no pins. I just got sand in the healing wound while in Thailand on the beach.

this is kerrect.

Had no idea your foot was so fucked up until I read your description of all the surgeries. That sounds like a whole barrel of fun. In a not so much kinda way.

GO

Finally got a call back from the Doc, and managed to get in and have the breeching pin pulled out. Was pretty casual, no pain, no painkillers kneaded. I probably could have done it myself with pliers, but whatevah.

^ I was on some pretty heavy pain killers here.
The ortho surgeon told me that if I were to have my tibial rod removed, it would be like rebraking the leg with a six month healing.

Shit I don't think that the gerkz have done much surgery tawk yet! So, who has/had hardware? Kel, Me, Beccs, Doc, who else?
Nathan has a femur rod.

And I somehow feel like Mo should be included on this list, even if none of her hardware is internal.

Oh yeah, was that from Nathan's meatdecking?

From getting caught between an ATV and a tree.

fucking trees are such a nuisance.
