I think that "open division" is for mountain sports where you don't actually leave the ground -- like picnics, or motor tours.

Its been a long decade and it seems a lot of the people mentioned so far have been mostly active in recent years. My short list: Yuji Hirayama for almost onsiteing el cap, onsiteing 14b, sending cobra crack and establishing the nose speed record, sending cobra crack. Euli Steck for running up and down big mountains in record time and nearly onsiteing el cap as an after thought. Dave Macleod for climbing at an elite level in pretty much every discipline short of really big routes.

Micah was a friend and I knew him for several years. years ago he said; " If I ever get lost out there, I do not want to be found" I have some film from him on El Cap where no one ever seen it so I may post it one of these days on youtube.

I'm not sure why Copp/Dash were nominated, other than because of the tragedy. What were their FAs? I would personally vote for Josh Wharton in the Alpine realm. And second Sharma, Caldwell, and Graham. Love 'em or hate 'em, they were probably the most influencial in the 2000s for sport, trad, and bouldering.
