jakedatc wrote: cory you know what route that is? seems as though zeb's given up most comp climbing to add hard trad to his list of things he's good at. something about a 12R at cathedral haha The route is "Laughing Man" (variation to "Welcome to the Gunls"). Believe it or not Zeb's old man had dome the route multiple times and put Zeb up to it.[

There is also a way to do the crux..shall we say indirectly..which semi bypases the business and makes it almost a whole grade easier (which is what I have typically done when leading). It's true that Zeb's molasses like speed is still there (although we did get up and down (zeb taught me about simul-rapping - the old dog/new tricks cliche) a 23 pitch 12b route at El Potrero a couple of weeks ago in under 10 hours). Oh and responding to an earlier thought - no he doesn't like plastic or compete much anymore (unless $$$ are on the line) although he did do very well at th almost completely unadvertised (thanks USA climbing...) Continental Championships in Denver over Thanksgiving. Nowadays most of his evergy is going into higher math - still lets him keep his head in the clouds.

Oh BTW, for any of the more recent thread joiners/ posters, "FUG" is a day of climbing at Quincy Quarries, which was originated near the start of this thread, on 3/1/03, and has been a yearly "season initiator" for us since, each march. FUG = F U Groundhog! Jake, you mentioned inventing some heel-hook moves on the attic wallie now. last night, in attempting to work a pull-up sit-start Shane had devised (which was too short and scrunched up for me - advantage her 5'1" 105 lb frame. my 5'9" 200 lbs weren't having any). I came up with this heelhook reclined start that I'll have to take some sequential pics of, or maybe a short vid. @200lbs, I'm the heaviest I've ever been since I started climbing, but I'm holding on longer and to smaller shiat than I have in several years as well. I know I could lead Excersize now, comfortably, and the top of Outside Corner wouldn't be nearly so desperate as last year.

I will try to get both Shane and my daughter Haley to show up...though they're both rather cold sensitive ;-) let's send vibes for a sunny 40 deg day, eh? Bottom of C-wall would be shirtsleeves f0r realz ;-)

Rob.. i might try to get kate to hit up RIRG saturday after my wrestling coverage at NAHS.. would be around 3 till failure so there is a big window. there are many tricks to starting low sit's.. heels, flagging, drop knees, thugery. To train heels hooks though i'd put up something realistic.. like a hand/heel traverse across the low overhang block.. make below off and spread the holds out a bit.. i'd say a leaning arete is also good but you don't have any of those so no dice

FUG March 3. Arrive at 9 am to set up C-wall TRs. We'll be in shirtsleeves by 10. The only thing that cancels is rain or active blizzard.

So, my fellow MCT denizens, we've got a concensus around 3/3 and 3/10. hoo is the direction i swhich we shall be Wooing. Jer, can you do the 10th? I know that tradieion would have us there the third (first weekend in march) Chad, is the 3rd absolutely impossible? I'm flexy around either Jake, that heel hook move Imentioned is a major shoe stripper for me...I tried three diferrent pairs, got a naked heel with each.
