Well done.. tis a classic

Went to Carabiners tonight with Kate and Jon.. once again realized why we hate it there.. Jon got a lesson in why he needed to have his floor anchor loose WHILE i was on the fucking route.. i was like "hey can you teach him after i'm off the route" he says "no this is an important safety issue" i was like WTF?? but he owns the place.. isn't a climber.. fucktard let my belayer pay attention to me while i'm 40 feet off the deck

even one of the staff guys said don't worry about him he doesn't know what he's talking about.. but you do have to do it his way in his gym.

oh well. had free passes.. dun care. bouldering was pretty good and the few routes that Jon knew were good were fun

Larry it really was. funny too - about halfway up the approach/slog, at the bottom of the rockslide, I remember saying out loud, "oh great. thanks, Larry". ;-) My calves still ache a bit and my shoulders are still sore from humping all that gear in and out...worth it though.

I'll write a longer TR tonight, and include some pictures.

as a slab climb, I like that better than Standard Route on WH, there are more features, the rock is more interesting, and the view from up high is more captivating, looking out accross crawford notch towards the willey slide.

beautiful country, man, really. there's ZERO cel reception in crawford notch, and on the hike out I was totally alone there, the occasional car driving by below on 302. probably the most dangerous thing I did all day was the hike out, down the rockslide rubble and through the woods in the dark, by headlamp, carrying all my gear. really a step-by-step, inch-by-inch process, being very careful to not turn, or break, an ankle on the many loose rocks and fallen leaves.

hey robbo, good to see you made it out without incident. i see you are continuing the farley method of crowd control Wink i was in a really informative self rescue class this weekend taught by mark chauvin. since you are into rigging systems, i think you'd dig it. anyway, good to see you out there. catch ya next time.

Leslie and I had a stellar day climbing up that way in September. Photo TR on one of those other sites:

Nice job, Tim! I almost got on it today. Passed it up for a burn on The Vaporizer. Superb long route. Took two or three hangs. I think I can send it in another try or two.

yeah good times! it was fun passing each other at the what, p3 belay? p2? I don't blame you guys for bailing off "A Bit Short" befor ethe sun went behind the ridge. that line was soaked...

I had both my ropes up in the attic hanging up to dry with fans blowing on them al day sunday. as wet as they got on the ascent, they got even more wet on the rap-off. there was a lot of water running down that cliff ;-)

Hey all, sounds like lots of good climbing happening back on the east coast! Rob, nice job on the rope solo adventure!

Danielle and I went to see Gone Baby Gone over the weekend. Good movie. There are a few scenes that take place in a quarry. I'm not sure where they actually filmed the scenes on the ground, but the flyover scene is definitely QQ. Cool! Though, the movie portrays it as being totally flooded, like it was back before they filled it. My guess is computer generated water, rather than just old footage. Has anyone else seen the movie yet? I definitely got some chills watching that scene :)

In other news, we're still waiting for snow out here, but enjoying the climbing while we wait. I'll be back in Boston for Thanksgiving and am hoping to get in at least a few hours at Crow Hill or College Rock, probably on the Saturday after the holiday.

Rockraider: I work during the week, and have weekend plans already, but FYI - there's a rock gym in Woburn called the Boston Rock Gym. You can rent gear there, too, if you need it. I know, it's just plastic, but better than nothing. And they've got plenty of cracks, if you want to practice that craft.

Just sayin'

GO

Kevin,

It was indeed filmed at QQ (at least parts of it). Alex and I went there to climb after work over a year ago and got the boot from MDC (or DCR...whatever) who was clearing the site out for the film crew.

There was equipment all over the place...extension cords and cables running over Under the Big Top etc.

2. crack
Crack is something that is sold by both drug dealers and prostitutes. The only difference is that a prostitute can wash her crack and sell it again.

kev, back in the summer of '06, a bunch of us ( me, Chad, Jen (with her niece), Jjeff, and.. I think that's it) made after work plans to climb QQ, but when we got there were turned away by the cops, becaise the place was taken over by the GBG production crew (which was HUGE, multiple semis, gear everywhere, temporary stairs built on some of the approch scrambles, etc) and had to head over to rattle snake rocks as an alternative.

so yeah the quarry scenes in the movie are our beloved QQ, but filled with CGI water (I've only seen the trailer.)

You're quite welcome. And no, despite Treddy's smart-alec remark about those who sell crack, the craft I was suggesting you practice had nothing to do with passing communicable diseases. Well, okay, maybe if you bleed on the crack.

And Tim - I'm strictly a crack user, I never try to sell it. Hey, even I have morals.

Cool! Though the closeup scene of the water didn't look much like QQ. It was a sheer drop into some deep looking water. I couldn't think of anything that would resemble that, other than maybe the west side of the pond near the reflector oven. Either way, very cool :)
