Hey, I just thought up this one.If a god created this earth, then why are there several big religons on this earth. They should all believe in one god and some atheists, but not believers in a other god.

Try reading Revelations. How can a God be a God if all he is God of are puppets??? You first must understand why we are givin the right to choose before you can understand why God stands back and allows us to do what we do.
are you saying that God created the "Right to Choose," that all those "Anti-Choice" Republican Bible Thumpers say God disapproves of? whoa.. now that belongs in the book of Revelations!

I see you never read the Bible at all. Did you forget about Adam & Eve? Was there not a choice made? Hummmm ... God has always given us the right to choose. It's people who try and take this right away from us. How else are we going to become who we really are? By someone telling us how to live?? That just makes up puppets ... Think about it, young grasshopper!

Man, this thread totally explains why in Europe we think americans are crazy.....people, get out to climb more often!

These were the same conversations the early Europeans had....1000 years ago if not longer. Us Murkins are just trying to catch-up to the rest of the world, sort of feeling out of place with the rest of you.

I strongly oppose the "if we can't explain it, let's make something up" view.

Juliana - this is really the heart of the matter; that what really defines us is our inability to accept unanswered questions. As a species we are completely intolerant of the condition as it feeds fear down to some very primitive levels within. It also defines our greatest weakness - that we allow ourselves to be so easily manipulated by our fear of the unknown and uncertainty. You've already shown yourself to be a brave individual for abandoning fear and embracing the questions rather than cling to concepts, practices, and beliefs that defy any reasoned inquiry. Climb on and enjoy...

It takes a braver individual to look at some very simple questions and realize the answer to these questions than to try to simply explain them away as unknowable...because there is truth in answering some simple questions about this world we live.

Did God come in the flesh as the man Jesus of Nazereth? Did He die for my sin and mankinds' sin so that we all might have abundant life? Did He rise from the dead and appear to many people? Will He return to judge the living and the dead?

No offense but if you are going to argue somehting that the bible says you can't use the circular argument "because the bible says so" you have to give the bible some sort of credibility first and lots of people believing i not credibility there are more poeple in the world that beleive of other thingsthan there are christians( not that i think the ideas in the bible have no merrit, on the contrary i think its a great metaphore about free will..... i'm far from a christian though) but you need to explain why the bible is right not just that itis the word of god....

i see you never took tongue-in-cheek 101. people are to blame? really? why do you think i hate people so much, especially RC.commies? to clarify on the subject of my not ever reading the Bible: I am a Jew, and I might add one more observant than most. I know the Torah, but I can't say that I have ever sat down and read the bulk of the New Testament, no. this thread still sucks.

Actually, the answer to all of the above questions and to "is there a Santa Claus?", for that matter, is no. Accepting pablum for truth when there is clearly no known, or at the moment knowable, answer is not bravery - it's the cowardice of caving into fear in my eyes and relinquishing of responsibility for yourself in this world to those that seek to manipulate others for their personal gain and agenda.

Sorry kiddo. The correct interpretation would have been "Quit acting like a punk-ass and learn some manners."

The beanie would have been the one that got caught when one of your deluded homies was blowing smoke up your nether regions

Think about this: Our "god" is as real (to the majority of us) as the Greek gods were to the Greek people. But we, as a civilization which has advanced beyond that, look upon these views as purely entertainment.

This is the heart of the matter....everyone of different faiths truely believes theirs is "The One(TM)"....otherwise...why would you belong to that faith?

No one will know the answer till ye dies. Before then...its not worth fighting about. (Wouldn't you feel bad if you died and found out that yours wasn't the one true religion? And then you'd feel even worse cause you spent so much time convincing others that yours was The One(TM).)

Anyways...

In reply to:
Maybe I just won't state my opinions from now on.

This would end a lot of fueding here and in the real world. Where you go on Sundays/Saturdays/Fridays is just an opinion....

Bryan

PS - The "you's" don't refer to YOU but rather should be taken generally. :)

When I am climbing my connection with God increases. When I am in a church my connection decreases. God is nature and buildings just don't inspire me at all.

With all the progress that has been made answering questions about religion and the existence God in the last 3 years, clearly, the topic is out of date.

Even though for me climbing helps to clear my mind and meditate, You cannot give up the Truth for something as fleeting as climbing. So definatly faith prevails.

And no one will. For those whose Truth is not climbing, they will give up climbing. For those whose Truth is climbing, they give nothing up.

As will it always, for the same reason -- whatever that faith may be.
