Finalized Dates, one full week:
July 15th till July 22nd

Karen and I do Yosemite National Park each Summer for 7-9 days, with a couple friends. We usually camp at Yosemite Creek, as it is halfway between Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows. (1/2 hr each way.)

RC.com needs to have another "get-together" on the Left Coast, as the first "unofficial" one in J-Tree was a hit. I'll bring the Bop-It.

Anyone interested in attending, please reply here.

http://www.rockclimbing.com/...es/smiles/rocker.gifrrrADAM http://www.rockclimbing.com/...es/smiles/rocker.gif

p.s. I'll have free stuff from RC.com and some of our advertisers. And Mark (fiend) will be with us.

You can count me in. I, literally, missed the J-Tree trip by inches. I can drive a couple of people from the Bay Area and I've got a National Parks Pass that I need to use more.

I'll be staying in yosemite west all summer, I rented a room from a big time valley veteran and cannot wait to be there for the summer. So count me in and keep me posted as to what the exact date is. It will be very cool to meet a lot of you guys face to face.

I'll drop by and say hi. I visit the valley every other week, its a 3 hour drive for me.
I'd be happy to run some people up Bishops Terrace (A great intro climb to Yosemite) or show some of the cliffs to some people who have not visited the valley before.
It will be fun to meet the RC.com online crew.

You gottapay for camping. We've stayed in Porcupine Flats and Yosemite Creek. I'll always go back to Yosemite Creek from now on, great camp ground. 4 mile drive in on a sh*tty road though, but that keeps the "canned campers" out.

Leaning towards 14 days there...

July 8th thru 22nd. More concrete dates to come.

This should give everybody more of a chance to make an appearance during that time span.

Spent some time in both places-Tuolomne is my choice by far for the summer. Don't have to deal with the crowds and you can still buzz down to the Valley in relatively short order(If the tourists don't get in your way!).

Tuolumne has much more to offer a Trad climber. And has cooler temps, less tourists, and just plain rules.

I'd go with Tuolomne.
Fewer Tourons and the Yostapo (rangers) are much friendlier there because of that.

I'm down, I think. I was planning a trip to the Needles around July 4th but maybe I can blow off work for a few more days and make it up to Tuolumne, or rearrange the Needles trip for later in the season. Or both

Would be nice to climb Snake Dike w/my girlfriend and try some harder (10ish) stuff in the Valley, or some of the longer alpine routes up in Tuolumne (3rd pillar of Dana, etc.). OTOH I really want to make it to the Needles, but I think my partners (as currently set) are pretty flexible about that.

If you roll down to 99 from the south entrance to the park you could probably be in the Needles in 2.5 to 3.5 hours but if you get caught behind an RV you up that estimate to 2.5 to 3.5 days The only thing that bugs me about Tuolumne is that you have to get pretty far into the backcountry before you can stop hearing those f---ing cars whizzing by! Otherwise the Needles would be superfluous.

Yosemite Creek campground is halfway between The Valley and The Meadows... It's a 4 mile drive down a shitty road to the site right next to the river than feeds Yosemite Falls. You cannot hear the cars, it's pretty secluded, and the road keeps out the canned campers.

This is where I'll be.

Finalized(ish) the dates, and edited the original post to reflect them.

Mark (fiend) will be with me, as he is climbing cross-country with Karen and I starting with The Gunks Gig then spending the better part of the Summer in SoCal at my house.

BTW 'jab'... 3rd Pillar Of Dana Mountain is my favorite Grade III so far. It rules, and I'll be doing it again this year. Better to do two double rope raps down and just do the last 5 pitches, as the first two are crap, and the Class 4 descent to the base sucks.

I want to remind everyone who is going to the Yosemite gathering about the ASCA. The ASCA has replaced over 1,127 bad bolts and anchors in The Valley and another 254+ in Tuolumne Meadows. The ASCA is an all volunteer organization that depends on contributions from climbers to continue their effort.

rrrAdam has graciously volunteered to host a 'collection jar' in which all of the money donated by you will go to the ASCA as a group contribution from rockclimbing.com.

Due to a promotion at my "real" job at Bally's (to Personal Trainer) I may be able to have more time off now. So look for me in the Meadows during this time. Anyone from So Cali looking for a ride (4-5 days +/- max for me) please PM me since my car doesn't get the best mpg (even though it is a 1990 Toyota Camry) and I don't like to waste gas if we can carpool. There is plenty of room for 2 with wall gear and food, or 3 with free climbing gear and food.

TRADitionally yours,

Cali Dirtbag

The campground I referenced in my original post is first come, first served. So if you get there during the week, you're in.

I'm definitely going through Tuolumne during that period, so as soon as you get final dates I'll see if it can work.

Oh, I'm excited about this (not as excited as I am to be graduating, but . . .) maybe I'll have to bust out my new "Nice rack" shirt, designed by yours truly so you'll recognize me.

I will probably come up to climb in the Meadows for at least 3 days during that period, but not stay at Yosemite Creek. This will be my first "gathering" - how do people hook up with each other if they are staying in disparate places?

Is there any chance for some kid-friendly approaches and climbs (he's 6 yrs) .. I'd love to come out, but dont think I can leave my baby that long again.

But I'm down with some climbing, slack lining, and bop-it-ing if I can convert it into our little summer vacation! (Where there's a will ... )

Clymber chk...There is some great, family-friendly stuff there. The west side of Lembert Dome you can drive to and is a fun, third-class slab that I am sure the little guy will think he's a big-wall climber on! I think Lembert is about 800' above the meadow so it is pretty cool. Puppy dome is about 1/4 mile from the ranger station/permit booth and has a multitude of climbs in the 5.4-5.8 range with bolts and trees for TR anchors. Hope this convinces you to come!
P.S. Most of the above TR climbs are in the 50' range so they are just right for a 6 year old.

Looks like I am in Sacramento for the next month, so I will probably hang out in Yosemite for a weekend or two. Is there going to be an official few days, or are people just passing through during the whole month?

Fiend - it'll be way too hot for me to consider doing a wall in July.

In case you didn't see the amendments to the first post, we've finalized dates to the 15th-22nd. Dates have been cut down so that Adam could take me to the Warped Tour to mingle witht he bands backstage

Adam says I need to let everyone know that ...

Sucks to be you!!!

Rules to be me!!

Oh, and I'm hoping I won't make the knee worse by climbing too soon, so I don't mind missing out on waking up on a ledge. I should get some decent exposure when Adam takes me up Third Pillar Dana Mountain.

Carpooling Options

I am planning on heading out from Salt Lake City on 7/14 Sunday, no set time of day yet ... maybe around late morning I guess. I'll probably be coming back to SLC on Saturday the 20th or possibly the 21st.

Anybody from the area who is heading out or possibly folks who are carpooling from further east who might be passing through SLC, we could carpool out to the Valley. I have room for two more (comfortably) and three more (not-so-comfortably) in my Subaru.

PM is probably the best way to get a hold of me.

Have fun.

Wilson (doki-doks) and I are going to try to make it out on the weekend. We'll most likely be playing around in Tuolumne on Saturday (the 20th) and in the Valley on Sunday morning We'll probably camp outside of the park in Lee Vinning Valley or by Saddle Bag Lake (It's a little longer drive but I really like the food at the Mobile Station ).

Hope to meet up with you guys there
Ryan

P.S. We're also going to try to make Smith Rocks in Aug too

Charitable, driving folk of rc.com:

Me 'n Andria ("cragchica") are going out of our minds in this smoldering pyre of a state. We must climb. We must make the pilgrimage. We. Must. See. Yosemite!

But, we don't have cars. Because we go to school. Thus, we are too po' for such finery. (God it sucks to be us sometimes ) So, if anybody is going to be passing thru Tucson or even Phoenix on the I-10 (or is reasonably close and could be persuaded to make a small detour) we would be most grateful. I believe Andria said something about "indentured servitude"... and gas money too

Am I begging? Yes, a little. But we're jealous of all the good times people get to have at the big-name gatherings, and we've never been to Yosemite. That simply must change!

We wanna see the "big ditch" just like the rest of y'alls, but that lack of motorized vehicle thing makes it harder So, pweeeeease? If you feel up to the task of driving 2 girls and maybe 2 dogs (canine presence negotiable), pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze PM either of us.

Glorified hitch-hiking rules!

Till then, we'll be buildering at the UofA

~Hillary

Well, looks like Hillary got to this thread before me...

But, I'm not too proud to do some pleading of my own.

If you are even remotely considering the idea of heading to Yosemite or know somebody who is please consider the idea of how nice the pleasant company of a friendly climber chica (or two) would be. If you are going soon - fantastic! Later this summer, also good. Keep me posted. I may be able to find myself a way out to So Cali if need be (especially with advance warning).

Pleeease...

Thanks,

Cragchica

Man, limiting the get-together, eh? Well, for any of you guys are passing through Tuolumne, stop by the VC Tues-Sat if you're looking for a partner in the evenings for a couple pitches or bouldering or something. If nothing else, I'll sling some beta at you.

Time is getting close to this Event...

Karen, myself and friends will be camping in Yosemite Creek Campground. (first come, first served.) All are welcome, and encouraged to camp there, so we'll be together.

Near there is White Wolf Campground, with a small store and resteraunt. There should be a BB there we can leave messages at. This is halfway between The Valley and Tuolumne, so it would be the best place to leave messages. ('maculated', can you check on this pretrip ???)

Hope to see you all and do some climbing together. I still have 10 SplitterGear Cams for users to use in exchange for their oppinions of them in PM or email.

I live in Wawona, which is within the park but still a couple hours from Tuolumne. Still, I get up there to climb during the summer and would love to drop in and meet folks.

I'll look for more detail as they happen

HELP!

Wilson's boss went Nazi on us and he has to work next weekend, leaving me without a ride to the park!!! My POS '85 Pulsar just doesn't have the legs anymore to make it up the grades on 120

I'm more than willing to pay a large chunk of the gas to and from the park and I will also have a park pass so we won't have to pay the entrance fee (going to buy it tomorrow) I'll even promise to shower and wash my equipment before the ride too

If you have room and will be passing by the Bay Area Friday afternoon, please PM or e-mail me

Thank you!!!

Not even close. If you, or anyone else, get to the campsite, look for the RC.com sign. I'll have plenty of room for anyone to "squat" at our site. If we're not there, feel free to set up camp with us.

BTW... I will call 'nikegirl' to update this thread as I can add more details when I am there.

Leaving tomorrow morning to arrive late Sunday afternoon at Yosemite Creek Campground.

I just got back from Yosemite last night. Doki, fmd4sld3, and I tried to climb Snake Dyke. A thunder storm rolled in, just as we were starting the first pitch We pulled off the route and called it a day... a very hard day, that approach SUCKS!!! It's even harder to use as a retreat route when it's raining, hailing and lighting on top of you. We had the proper gear with us so it wasn't that bad, but still very scary to see lighting hit less than a quarter of a mile away and feel the thunder at the same time.

These afternoon storms have been hitting the park about 1:00 for the last few days and one was building yesterday as we were leaving the park yesterday. BRING YOUR GORE TEX, and be prepared to back off a route.

See you guys up there this weekend.
Ryan

If anyone wants to car pool from the Bay Area, PM me. I'm planning on leaving from Oakland Friday evening and returning Sunday night. I've got a Jeep Cherokee and room for 3 total people with climbing and camping gear and food.

Or if there's already a carpool going looking for another person to split gas, PM me as well.

See you all there,
