I usually like to have a couple of cliff bars hanging around. I will always have a bunch of water an usually a gatorade. Bananas are great too.

On my climbing trips it's the Breakfast of Champions... Quadruple Mocha and cigarettes.

During the day, "Cheap-o-Rade" (home-made), and more cigarettes.

Think I'm kidding ??? Ask the following users... i.karen, sauron, nikegirl, addiroids, hangerlessbolt, toobigtoclimb, f_od, jeepmonkey, or meadors... As they've all witnessed my "champion's diet".

Smoking is bad... Mm'kay ???

But in all seriousness... I get my endurance from the meal the night before, high in carbs. And I find that "hydration" is key to endurance and not pumping out, as it keeps your blood volume up.

I usually like to have a good breakfast, pancakes, eggs and bacon. I often find that when we get to the crag and start climbing time gets away from us and we dont eat lunch until well after noon, so that big breakfast sure helps.
For lunch I like the tuna and cracker lunch kits and apple and sometime some granola bars.
Works for me.

whatever I can get at the gas station is fine with me. Sometimes I don't eat, that helps with the weight... just kidding...

If I eat a box of mac and cheese I don't climb well... Or if I eat more than half a pizza, that is also too much.

I was talking to this girl that does triathlons, and she said that the energy for a particular day actually comes from your meal three days before. So if she was competing on Saturday she would eat the appropriate food on Wednesday.

The week before something hard, like a mountain bike race, I "carbo-load." Immediately after, there is a "window" during which time it is MUCH easier to replenish carbs I just smoked through. Day-to-day, it's Ramen Noodles and Peanut Butter & Banana sammies- mmm mmm good!

Totally just a balanced diet. I make sure I get enough of everything(ok, sometimes too much). On climbing trips I usually try to eat big dinners, and keep breakfast and lunch sufficient but not too much. I drink a ton of water, too...

My partner and I joke about needing a Clif bar before our day of climbing. Gotta stare at the guy on the package for inspiration and then eat what he's been eating. Commercialization is where it's AT!!!

And of course, there's climbing with my lucky thong. ; )

You know, this got me to thinking. I'm also superstitious about de-layering when possible. I'll strip down before a climb so I'm totally uninhibited by heat or fabric. I've been known to be found shivering on multi-pitch climbs. But seriously, everytime I strip off the fleece, I seem to send routes a lot more regularly.

Normally, energy bars, gatorade and all that don't do anything for me. Then I found this crazy powder called "Spark" made by Advocare. Little on the expensive side and tastes like hell if added to water like it suggests, but tastes fine when added to Tampico or OJ. Triathletes and pro athletes I had heard of endorsed it (not like it matters, but it was something) so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Holy cow! I have energy generated from the depths of my soul that I never knew existed.

After climbing, I always have a craving for a big plate of pasta.

We know, we know. We've read the "thong" thread. A picture would be worth 1000 words, Mac.

Two packs of Peter Pan crackers with peanut butter, one bag of homemade trail mix (banana chips, dried mango fruit, cashews, raisins, sunflower seeds, and peanuts,) and a lot of water.

And I also use the "cigarette diet", though I don't recommend it to anyone.

Best,

JRB
