Cheapest and most flexible that you can find. Unless you are on of the people who needs to boost his image with prana or some other fucked up corporation.

There is always some dork who says "buy cheap pants, not Prana you corporate tool". Buy whatever you want. Those Prana pants are very soft, I don't know what they are made of, but they seem like they wouldn't hold up to actual climbing. I know nothing about the others you have there. On the other hand, Gramicci Mountain Jeans (also not cheap but can be found on sale on occasion) are soft, comfortable, and very durable.

there are ways to get parna, and other pants for much less then retail, or what people consider expensive. i personally have tried prana, and i have tried some other cheap pants "made for the outdoors" i liked prana. not that the fabric matters much, but the material was very soft, and dried quick. felt very breathable. I personally went with the pranas, because they seam to be the only company that make shorts, (or pants that convert to shorts) that go down to your knees or past them. Sorry but i don't want to be walking around with shorts that make me look like i am one the village people. Another thing. I suck at climbing, so i scrape up my knees a lot. So i like that the prana shorts/knickers, come down slightly over your knees. Let me know if you have found any other SHORTS that have an inseam 12 inches long.

Hey man, I would just watch website like steepandcheap.com. I just bought 2 pairs of the Prana Sonora pants for 24.95 each (that's less than jeans) and they are extremely comfortable. I haven't climbed too much in the them, but just feeling the material, they will withstand the rigors of climbing. If the above were your two options, I would go with the Prana! This opinion is coming from a guy who doesn't own one thing that is Abercrombie and is the biggest cheap guy who ever existed! Enjoy searching!

Mountain Harwear Levity Pant. Cordura material is very tough. WOrht every penny, and currently on closeout in several places. Fit is hit or miss, however. Get 'em before they're gone.

FYI: All the Prana pants I've had wear out in the butt section extremely quickly. Forget climbing they hardly seemed like they were built for sitting! But man are they comfortable and they sure look cool. Actually I think that most of the climbing pants I've had seem to wear out awful quick, and so do those shoes.....wait a minute! But for some suggestions, Gramici are very nice and pretty tough. Dickies also work well, as well as those generic painter pants at Kmart or wherever. And good luck finding pants without cargo pockets, I'm pretty sure it is against the law to make them that way anymore.

I have a pair of Prana pants. I got them on sale for twenty some bucks. I love them - not because they are prana, I could care less about name brands or image or any of that shit - but becvause they are comfortable, and lightweight, and warm. I wear them almost every day when I get home from work, unless its too hot.

I love my Prana Mantis crop pants. Also just picked up a pair of Lee Carpenter jeans at Kohl's for $19.95. They're baggy, light and I can roll up the legs and look cool. Mal

Mal Mal, you might reconfirm with your wife that is indeed the case!  . I do perception checks with mine and she continually redirects my misplaced belief about how I look in public:-) I have a pair of Grammechi semi-stretch pants that don't make me look too bad, sort of like a potato with legs. Very comfortable. high regards: Bill

You know I wish people wouldn't ask questions like this because I have no self control and get all giddy and then I can't focus on important stuff like my climbing and my hair. The best pants in the entire Universe right now for climbing AND hanging out are the 'Camp 4 Pants' by Patagonia. They have this whole 'I'm-a-stripper' thing going for them with a dash of Euro-trash-chicness. I have felt equally at home in them crack climbing at Indian Creek, Zion, strip clubs in Florida and running around various sport climbing locales in North America. Check it out.

Those Prana pants are very soft, I don't know what they are made of Yes there is a dork, and i don't have a problem paying for the "logo" as long as there's something special about it (example Gore-tex), but paying double or triple prize for COTTON pants, No way.. And of course you can buy them but i think its stupid to buy expensive pants for summer climbing...
