The guy says he smokes weed. He says this specifically so that someone like you who can't afford to flunk a drug test due to job requirements, doesn't find out later that their new partner is a heroically ardent stoner. I don't think that's inappropriate, rather it is being proactive about avoiding problems later. I mean, if you (for example) were making good progress by climbing with the guy, and then one day he whips out an octopus bong and starts what looks like a small brush fire, you'd be pretty pissed, eh?

It's not like the guy is exhorting the young'uns to go smoke a blunt. (Personally I find marijuana to be a very boring drug and a waste of time, but to each his own) *THAT* would be irresponsible and probably illegal.

Admitting (or stating, or whatever) that he likes to smoke marijuana is kind of like admitting that he sometimes drives over the speed limit or says "god damn". These days it doesn't seem like too many people care, but the ones who do, would do well to find another partner. That's all. *shrug*

Well this is a forum and people can say whatever the h3ll they want, but dont criticise them for something that they do (smoking weed, drinking etc...) or for whatever they may happen to believe in (mormon religion) neither have anything to do with climbing so dont worry about it

Hope you find someone

Makes me wish I lived in CA. I'd love to join you, but living in WI is a problem. I think I would fit into your niche as I was "raised" by old school climbers. Yeah! The guys that really know what it is all about.

To the rest, don't get upset about that last sentence up there. If you aren't "old school" you wouldn't understand (unless you were raised by them too) and I mean no harm.

Steve

Talk a run through Camp 4, you may find someone. You never know. I saw several new partnerships evolve last year while I was there.

Good Luck!

WHOA there, Sentinel!

Sorry my post was misconstrued as a flame, troll, ?religous?, ?drug related?, etc. Actually with 20/20 hindsight I could see how it was vague - maybe I shoulda' dressed it up with a smiley face

I met that the schedule you proposed and your climbing level was above my meager means and I'd have to quit my job just to train or participate.

Unfortunately you misunderstood - my apologies.

Now to address that nasty response...

I can understand that a person such as yourself, from the "old school" might be kinda set in your ways so a response at your level may be in order (though not my original intention) to facilitate a more understanding environment-

Your post sounded like it was from an anal corporate head hunter looking for recruits for his client - in that case, what's the salary range?

(I thought climbin' and findin' partners along the way was supposed to be fun?)

Oh, and by the way I'm not a mormon nor a religous man, not that there's anything wrong with that...

Yeah, Maybe I don't need to climb harder to get better - maybe I just need thinner skin! And you need a Yoga class.

I don't know about other people, but jabbing potential climbing partners in the eyeball doesn't seem to be the best way to Get Off On The Best Foot.

Then again, who ever said that new El Cap route (A5+++) was going to be easy?
