Personally, I think this is one of most level, if unforgiving, playing fields I've ever seen. But then again, I hover comfortably somewhere between whippersnapper and geezer. :) You can't be serious. :roll:

:? Have I been blind to all the age discrimination? I'll certainly admit the possibility... and that it's starting to concern me on more than one level. Help me out here. Point me to something than indicates widespread age discrimination.

That's why I gave this a T-9. Read the jstan post you quoted. It's complete BS. The only reason wjca got slammed is because he slagged a revered pioneer of climbing. IMO the people who ragged wjca overlooked the fact that the OP was troll bait. This thread gets bandied about, while jstan remains silent.
People are taking this too seriously.

Joking or not he call a very knowledgeable person a moron. Knowing John I would have say that the OP was not troll bait and something he felt the need to state. Why he wasted his time trying is an issue with me.
Knowing John I would also have to say that reason he is being silent on this matter. That with the kind of responses that has recieved on the OP these folks proved his point.
Yes John is a revere pioneer of the climbing world and there is a reason for that. A generation of climbers were infulence by his climbing style and his drive to do routes that at the time were deem impossible. Ever hear of John Bragg...Steve Wunsch...Henry Barber...Rich Ramano? John had a major impact on these and countless other climbers in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I say without hesitation that he was and still is one of my heroes in the climbing world.

I agree, Bob. As it should be, someone with jstan's list of climbing accomplishments deserves a very high degree of respect in every climbing forum. Bob, if you happen to speak with jstan, please mention that I'd still like to discuss his observations. As a member of the site's adminstration, I'm concerned if anybody here feels discriminated against.
(BTW, "He was joking," referred to jstan and not wjca. OK, now I'm done correcting my elders. :P)

jstan is remaining silent because he's not following the thread, as I am sure he has better things to do. He said what he wanted to say to start a dialog, some of which was addressed. Without trying to sound like an ass here, I feel there is a bit of hypocrisy in this thread. Honestly, I did not sense any sarcasm while reading the OP's post. Not to say he wasn't being facetious, but that is hard to surmise from what little he wrote. That being said, what difference does it make who the OP was? If it was just some random guy, would all the slams made on him be OK, but because of who he is, they're not? I plead ignorance on the subject of both age discrimination on rc.com and the OP's history, but I do think that some people have overreacted in this thread.
If the OP was not being sarcastic, then his concerns certainly should be addressed in an objective manner. However, other posters on this thread shouldn't be slammed for reacting to what they (might have) thought was a tongue-in-cheek post. Most of the lashing out seems to be because of the OP's actual identity, which was unknown to most posters, I'm assuming, and I think that's a bit unfair.
Then again, what do I know?? I'm just a newb... :lol: :wink: :)
