try to climb with people who are older than you (some times they'll be better than you as well, so you can climb outside and learn from climbing with them) -Sean

Hey tgreene, I think Majid_Sabet has the hots for you. Do you two have a thing going on? And to the kid without a DL, Do a few extra chores around the house, and maybe try to be helpful in some way. And, maybe your parents will be so stunned that they might take you to the crags to climb. cosmiccragsman

In reply to: I heard in Canada some people hitch a ride on a moose. Well come to think of it, we almost lost our canoe once, but lo and behold this trooper came along and saved the day. He ended up being our rope gun, until we became a wee bit peckish. Sure, we lost our gun, but gained ohh 600lbs of pure grade A steaks. So, if you are in the dumps with no D-licence come on up to Canada. http://homepage.mac.com/...res/moose_riding.jpg

Im in the same boat with you man. Well, not anymore, I just got my liscense, but just go to the gym weekly and make finds with the older climbers who can drive you to wherever you want to climb. Or catch a bus. Or just have yourself frozen in time until teleporters come out. that would be sweet

Dude, save up and buy a moped. Or have your parents buy you one (haha). Or hate them for not... Seriously though, you can pick up a used moped (scooter, whatever) for cheap and obtain a great measure of freedom... Ditto the finding older friends to drive you. Cheers, A.W.

Do what everybody else your age does...suck it up. It sucked to be under age, but everybody has to go through it. You're life will suck and you will hate school, your parents, and yourself, but once you get older you will appreciate that much more. I used to play guitar in a couple bands when I was younger, it sucked cuz I couldn't get into bars without my dad. Luckily however, all the guys in the last band I was in were at least ten years older than me and they would buy beer for the jam sessions. There are ups and downs, I didn't start climbing until I had my license so luckily I don't have to know how bad it is to be jonesin' to finger some rock and be sol. (me happy cuz I just remembered my life could be worse.)

I hitch-hiked to the rocks my first couple of years climbing. Even bummed rides to the valley stayed a couple weeks and would then hitch-hike home. There were no gyms around here then so everyone was headed to the rocks so I'd be standing out on the highway with my climbing shoes dangling off my backpack in order to be recognized by other climbers.

In reply to: How do us young kids get to the Cliff line when we cant drive. I'm a young climber with out a drivers license and can barely climb outside. Does any body have any tips. A couple of tips: 1) Suck it up. 2) Be nice to people around you, see this as an opportunity to practice your social skills and make friends who have [valid] drivers' licenses, or at least with vehicular hookups. 3) Get more creative with the tree/slackline idea before dismissing the option. 4) Be really nice to your parents and earn good grades. If you're not academically inclined, ask for help. This area of your life will either greatly help or seriously impede your climbing access. 5) Suck it up again and realize that most of us have to learn to wait at some point. Because once you get your drivers' license, you'll probably have to wait longer before you're a legal adult, longer still to be allowed to [legally] purchase and consume alcohol, longer yet again before your astronomical car insurance rates start going down, and just a bit longer after that before you're not considered a high risk credit group based on age. 6) Be nice to people on this site, represent yourself as an enthusiastic climber looking to meet new friends, and be willing to pitch in wherever you can. 7) Get a job, regardless of whether your climbing access hinges on your ability to finance it. 8) DON'T WHINE!!! Hope this helps.

Get a friend (doesn't matter if they climb or not) and get their mom to drive you.

how old are you? get a tractor.
In reply to: 1. Age 14 or 15 may drive a farm vehicle within 150 miles of driver’s farm, having a gross weight of not more than 50,000 pounds, when transporting agricultural products or farm supplies." with pad or gear, you'll meet the proper weight requirments. hell you could even throw a sheep on there or two for relaxation purposes.

I don't have a license. The line "I've got a rack, you've got a car" works well for me as does offering to put the rope up there for people. Anybody want to head for moab or jtree? I've got a rack...

make friends with people who DO have cars and climb and have them take you with them. its that simple. usually they won't mind as long as you chip in a few bucks for gas. trust me...i don't drive either and it seems to work just fine... :D
