I understand the 'best' time to climb there is anytime but summer, but due to work, I'm looking to go around the first week of July. Too hot to climb then? Any info. is appreciated.

The place is still awesome no matter when you go. But the area classics are almost all hand-friction-dependent and WAY harder in the summer. Other than that, the poison ivy, snakes, and bugs are only minor annoyances

I would advise you to stay in NC for July. The whole Boone area is about as good as you are going to do temperature wise in the southeast during July. Never been top HP, but Rocktown was pretty hot over New Years. I cant imagine that southern sandstone would yield very much friction in the middle of the summer.
