It is our intention that this forum is disbanded. Failing someone making a very pursuasive argument to the contrary I shall in about a weeks time make all the arrangements to disband this forum. The posts will not disappear though, they will be shifted to other forums such as the general forum so as such will still be searchable.

It seems that the interest in this subject has waned and it is time to move on.

Feel free to post to this thread if you have a very strong opinion on keeping this forum or otherwise.

Thank you.

Phil Box for rockclimbing.com site management and moderators.

Arno told me he didn't like to post in this forum because it had a styfling effect on further discourse-- once the oracle had spoken, all others were reluctant to comment, in other words.

I have a feeling this had a negative effect on posts to the rww forum, because many people wanted to hear what Arno had to say.

Maybe Arno if would start posting again, the forum would regain popularity.

In discussions in the mods forum we are coming around to the opinion that perhaps the content of this forum should stay in one place. In other words we look like we`ll be keeping this forum live. It would be nice to think that new life could be brought to this forum and not just leaving it as a repository for an archive.

Hello Dr. Phool,
This is Arno. A few thoughts that may help.

1. Open the forum to anyone, not just folks that bought the book. I think one original concern was to keep unwanted comments from anyone who wasn't serious about learning the ww material. Unwanted comments, though, could actually create a mental training learning situation--if folks get offended or defensive about comments then it is an opportunity to talk about ego.

2. I could post mental training questions that I've found most climbers find challenging. Then I can guide the discussion a bit, without killing it, in a way that allows people to learn new perspectives. I have questions I've received from climbers and newsletter topics I written on that could provide plenty of questions to develop interest again.

Let me know what you think or how I could help.
thanks, arno

If revived, this would be one of the most useful and serious forums on rc.com. I noticed that questions related to mental training (leading+fear, my first trad lead + fear, etc) appear at different rc threads quite regularly. If they all were directed to the RWW forum, provided of course that the book requirement is lifted, the forum would not appear dead.

It is very kind of Arno to offer to guide discussions on RWW forum. This opens a unique possibility to rc.com members to interact with him.

Could there somehow be a public announcement declaring the opening of the forum? And maybe even changing the name of the forum to Mental Training - The Rock Warriors Way' for the people who have no idea what RWW is but are struggling with these issues or interested in improving. An announcement on the front page could entice people to check out the forum and contribute.

I would love to see more activity in this forum. I have found the advice and insight here so useful. I think it's worthwhile to open it up and attempt another shot.

Just some of my thoughts. Thanks.

As per suggestions above I have changed the name of the forum and made an announcement in the What`s New Forum which will reflect to the apropriate space on the front page.

Hey, Phil, how about a colon [:] after "Training" and capitalize the "T" in "The."

Fewer changes makes the maintainer of the drop-down menus happier, of course. This thread probably doesn't need to be sticky any more.

How about moving this forum out of the clubs section adn into the specialties section, since Arno is now taking an active part, and the slackline forum says, "talk to the guy who invented it"?

Moving it out of clubs might make it a bit more clear to everyone that it is open to all now as well.

I agree with this. It should be next to (either under or above) "Techniques & Training."

I'm not sure if it echoes to the front page or not. If it doesn't, now that it's available to all, it probably should.

Conceivably it could involve people actually posting and discussing issues

Surely the climbing season is well underway over in the states and there's lots of interesting stuff going on in people's climbing to talk about??

Ditto what Kimgraves said^^^.

This forum should be more closely linked with techniques and training.

i didn't know what rww was until i saw this forum. since then, i've eyed the book on the shelf in several stores, thinking i'll get it later, as i'm interested in the concepts i've seen.

for now, i find the threads in this forum to be some of the most informative and civil on the site.

i'd say keep them, if not still active, archived, at least. if the forum stays active, then yeah, obviously it goes in/with/near the training and technique forum...

This question "the future of the ww forum" was answered last year. As far as I know it has already been decided. It has resurfaced due to fiend's post.

I think it should stay where it is and not get moved to "General" In general section the threads from this section will just get lost "in between" and it will also make harder for some of us to read it/follow it. It will also make harder for Arno to answer those threads. ( my opinion )

I will state a site management policy that there is no intention of getting rid of the WW forum.
