I am 5'9" and 141lbs. I am currently the heaviest that I've ever been in my life. I graduated HS at 135lbs, a long (years) stint in triathlon had me as low as 128, then bike racing put me up to around 136, finally my passion for climbing has given me a bit of arm muscle and I'm 141. I have never climbed better. There is no ideal weight however. It's good to be as light as your body can handle while keeping energy up and injury down. Again, using me as an example, I've never tested higher than 6% body fat. Those things are terribly inaccurate but you get the idea, I'm not carrying what I don't need. Bone structure plays a huge role. I know people who at 5'9" are 180 and look lean, in fact, they are. No amount of dieting could healthily get them under 170. I know other people at the same height who are down right chubby at 160. What weight can you sustain? BTW, I've seen old guys with a gut climb some hard things.

5'6" 132 pounds Honestly, your ideal climbing weight depends mostly on your style of climbing and how good your footwork is. The more dynamic your style of climbing the heavier you'll tend to be because of the muscle that will develop for those long throws.

Started climbing when I was well over 300 now about 210-215. (6'2") I think 50% of my improvement have been due to weight loss/fitness and the other 50% just better technique learned over time.

I'm now at the 150 mark at 5' 6" but surely do not look it. Most people say I look 20 lbs lighter but I'm not I vary from one time of year to another due to my work schedule anywhere from 145- 165. I've been a little past the 170 mark but when I was at my peak weight and performance when I could afford to eat and train.

I'm 5'-11" and currently 195lbs. In the summer I usually drop down to 175-180lbs due to working outside in the heat and training harder.

6'2" 170 +/- 5 lbs depending on the season. Like others have said it's best not to determine your ideal weight based on some chart, as your genetics are a big part. I'm on the lean side even at 170. I would recommend getting your body composition tested then setting a goal based on fat % not weight. Consider someone like Klem Lascot who is over 6 feet and 200+ pounds and is an animal on the rock. Also be realistic on your weight loss as if you cut your calories too much your climbing is sure to suffer.

old-skool Aerosmith wrote: She just loves my big ten inch... record of my favorite blues. I'm 5'11" 185#'s I've put on nearly 20#'s over the past 20 years, but still feel I'm pretty close to my ideal weight. The extra insulation/energy reserve seems to serve me pretty well this time of year, though come summertime i'll usually drop down to 175#ish. Remember: muscle weighs more than fat.

I've always been pretty small. I'm 5'7 and can weigh anywhere between 120 and 130 lbs, depending on the week.

They've all been asked and answered. Yet we feel compelled to come back over and over and over. It is our job as addicts to act as if the question was original and continue to answer with all the pizzaz and intensity of a Bogart or Edward G.... Cause that's showbiz.
