As I sit here, and the wind is howling and the rain comes sideways...I mope. No one has mentioned rain...
Cold and Snow. But, not rain.
So, I assume rain stops here, climbing then means indoor gyms, right?
All those who are lucky enough to enjoy year around outdoor climbing...I envy.
Dragging my arse to the gym now...
until later...
T
I think the winter dulldrums have hit...

Cheer up Sassy Girl! It ain't gonna rain forever. Wait'll it gets cold, cuz then you get the stickiest rubber goin' (it's true - when Ron Foreskin, er, Fawcett made the first ascent of Master's Edge, he waited til December and climbed it in like 4C weather)

(oh, that's the high thirties for you Merricans....)

Somewhere on Kelso Crag in Ontario in 1983 or thereabouts I made the first ascent of this 5.9 handcrack, which I called "Minus Ten" after the temperature in degrees Celsius during which it was climbed. When my partner got to the top, he was literally crying in pain from jamming in the cold! Me, I was OK, cuz when you're on the sharp end, you don't think about such things.

Hey Sassy, why don't you come up to Canada and do a bit of winter rock climbing - if you were belaying me, maybe I'd get to warm my frigid fingers inside your jacket! Wouldn't that make a gal perk up and pay attention...

I live in sunny Southern California, so I climb year round. I have climed in as low as 28 deg Far weather, but had hand warmers in my chalk bag. Winters for me are spent in J-Tree.

I read somewhere that Stealth C4 is stickiest at 39 deg Far..

I am a South African - in the U.S. at the moment, and I do not understand why Americans do not travel more. With the rates of exchange y'all can travel, almost anywhere East, for almost nothing. Spend winter climbing in Thailand or Africa...PERFECT! Then you would not have to worry about ice climbing, thermal undies and silly things like frostbite.

this is going to be the first time i have gotten to climb in the cold, it shouldn't be that bad though down here in alabama so i think i will do fine, but you do need a jacket i know that and some hot hands when you ain't climbing. other than that, down here you don't need leggins or any thormo undies just a jacket and some long pants and warm sock, you have to have warm socks to keep your body warm. thats about it

I don't know why, but I freeze when its 60 outside. So when the winter hits I'm only outtie at he crags like 1 or 2 times a week. The hand-warmers in the chalk bag really do work.

Winter is my favorite time because with winter comes cold weather and that means ICE.
Try ice climbing and you too will love winter.
