Just wonderin' how many of all y'all play an instrument (vocals count, kazoo does not)? I play french horn, trumpet, and a little bass guitar. I used to play viola but I gave that up.

When I was in high school, I played the clarinet. I played that from 5th grade till I graduated. I also used to play the french horn and could play the drums. Oh, and I karioke (sp?), but I'm not sure that I'm good!!

I play the drums (4.5 years) and I also play the glockenspiel (I think that's how it's spelled, anyways, it's basically a big xylophone: one year).

I play trombone, some legit but jazz is my speciality. I can get by on the piano if I need to, but playing the piano for me is "work". Playing trombone for me is second nature, at least as long as my chops hold out! Oh yeah, I sing in a barbershopper chorus. I remember one night when I was soloing Native Son up on El Cap, I could hear some dude playing his trumpet from the meadows - the strains of Amazing Grace floated up to me and lifted my heart after an exhausting day of hard aid. (I'm a Believer, and this hymn really touched my soul that night...) I've often thought about taking my 'bone up the big wall. I made the First Solo Shower Ascent of El Cap as well as the First Solo Crustacean Ascent, but first Trombone Ascent of El Cap would be pretty bitchin', whether I was soloing or with a partner. (I'd say "First Brass Instrument Ascent", but I have to wonder if anyone has taken up a trumpet) Man, that would be rad - standing on the ledge at night, ghetto blaster cranked to the max, and belting out Maynard Ferguson's Superbone Meets the Bad Man (written for valve trombone, but I play it on the slide..). Hoo boy, would that ever be LOUD. Now I don't mind haulin' the damn thing up there, cuz I can haul the world. That's never a problem. The two problems would be getting the thing there on the airplane (it's a hundred bucks Merrican for an extra piece of baggage, and I already have at least one) and of course the more-than-minor-effort of carrying the thing back down the East Ledges descent after topping out. Hmmm.....sounds like a lot of work, eh? One thing I wouldn't do, though - send the trombone down "air express" with my unbreakable stuff! Can you imagine the twisted hulk of brass that thing would become after impact?! Nah, I think the First Solo Trombone Ascent of El Cap might have to wait, at least until I find a willing sherpa for both the base AND the summit!

I played the clarinet up until a year ago. Can't seem to find the motivation to pick it up again because if I climb as much as I do, and then practice, my wrists really hurt. Don't laugh, the clarinet is a heavy thing to have perched on your thumb for an hour or two. I also play the piano, but very poorly. Pianomahhn can vouch for that. He's an awesome pianoman.

I mainly play guitar. But I also play a little bit of the piano and the drums. I have been playing guitar for 11 years. Piano before that but never really liked it enough to get any good at it.

Used to wail on the jazz trombone. (Valves are for the weak!) But after highscholl the cost of renting one increased dramatically. Lately I've been contemplating starting up again and seeing if I can't get in with a local ska band. Two years ago I taught myself to play harmonica. I can play sheet music OK, but improvisation and bending daunt me. I think one must learn bending by jamming with someone who has a clue what they're doing.

I was a cello performance major in college, mostly electric and avant garde stuff. I developed tendinitis, so I had to quit playing seriously. That is also why I mostly like to aid climb these days.

I played cello for nine years until I was about 17 years old. I played in a youth symphony for a while. Now I play banjo in a bluegrass band and I also play guitar quite a bit on my own at home.

in highschool i was on drumline for 3 1/2 years. i was never really into marching band, but we had a seperate drumline and i loved it. i miss it so much. i played 1st bass, middle snare, and tenors...in no specific order. tenors were probably the hardest, and i definetly had the most fun on that little bass. i wonder what it would have been like to play cymbals??...sissys!! i got respect for the marching band people out there though... mainly trumpets... after the drumline, they are the next cockiest section!!! and i don't remember which one of you guys it is out there thats learning how to play the mandolin..but RIGHT ON!!!! that is awesome. i got a buddy who play some sweet licks on that thing. best of luck in learning! have a nice day. jamie

I've been playing piano for 10+ years. I play violin for the college orchestra, and I've been playing for around 9 years. I also do Karaoke. I can play the cello and viola decently, but not seriously. I've now begun trying to teach myself the guitar.

I really want bag pipes, but my parnents wont buy them for me! I guess some things are too annyoing. I'm not allowed to lay my didge around my dad.
