The keylocks lack the tooth, which despite being a pain in the ass most of the time, has kept me from dropping nuts more than once. The cable catches on the tooth, giving you one last chance to grab that sucker before it goes airborn. Edit to add: as far as racking cams, I love the keylocks, and use them almost exclusively.

I'll go with Dingus, the only reason I use a oval for nuts is that I have nothing else to use em for unless I want to ascend, then I just flog the otherwise useless racking one to use.

I have a partner with decades of experience who likes the tooth as well for that very same reason. Still, I'm toothless; track record indicates I very very seldom drop nuts without a tooth so why have one? Bill L P.S. Just to be on topic: I do prefer solid gates when clipping a placed stopper but will use a wire gate if it is already in hand. I have nothing to back up that preference.

The tooth gives and the tooth takes away. They are like pathetic gamblers, addicted to their ovals and unable to admit their lossee. So sad... DMT

I prefer my nuts on a modified D biner. I like how they all 'gather at the apex.' DMT

Interesting. I'm with you on the keylock but I like the oval because the cluster of wires tend to separate a bit and rotate around the biner a more fluidly during the selection, placement and re-racking cycle. They do rack a bit neater on a mod-D though.
