What is earths highest point? Not above sea level but from the center of the earth (what mountain reachest farthest into space)?
Hint: It's not Everest and its summit is only 20,000 ft.

Good question. I would guess that it would have to be somewhere near the equator due to the ellipsoidal shape of the earth. Unless you are throwing in some crazy geoidal surfaces.

20,000 from the center? I think not. If that were true, then the center of the Earth would only be 8,000 feet below the point in which Everest starts as Everest's base is roughly 17,000 feet above sea level and soars to 29,000 feet above see level. If that were true and the summit was only 20,000 feet from the center, that would put the center of the Earth at 9,000 feet above sea level.
You may want to just rephrase the question to "What point on the Earth is farthest from the center?", then give the hint that it isn't Everest.
If I were to guess, I'd say it's Denali (McKinley) as it reaches out to 20,300 feet above sea level. It's the world's largest mountain and it's base is only 1,500 feet above sea level which means there is 18,800 vertical feet of mountain from base to summit.

Which summit(s) are the highest above tree line?
Which mountains have the greatest base to summit relief?

How does it make more sense? Specifically with the hint involved. The hint insinuates, to me, that the summit is only 20,000 feet from the center of the Earth, which isn't possible.
All I did was math, based on the 17k base and 29k summit.
And, no offense taken.

Well Climbchick was the first to buzz in the correct answer with Mt. Chimborazo (20,700+ ft). Even though the summit is only 6310 meters above sea level (over 2000 m's below Everest), its peak is 6384 km from the center of the Earth, vs 6382 km for Everest, thereby making Mt's Chimborazo the peak farthest from the center of the Earth.

but the temperatures contrast is higher between the center of the earth and the summit of the everest, so this climb would be harder...

I think the highest from bottom to top are Mauna Kea/Mauna Loa on the big island of Hawaii. You DO need to bring oxygen for the BOTTOM half, though.

Mt. Chimborazo is extremely near the equator. Since the earth rotates 24 hours in a day and the circumference is roughly 24,000 then the speed of the earths rotation, AT the equator is around 1000 miles per hour! So the earth is traveling beyond mach one and it creates a bulge, the poles "squash" and the earth is slighty non spherical towards the equator from the centrifugal force of the rotation. And, TADA, the highest mountain is in Equador! That sure is a lot closer and cheaper than Everest (although who can take anything away from the Himalayas?).

Poteau, Oklahoma has the worlds tallest hill. It is called Cavinaugh Mountain and its height is 1999 feet. Pretty much useless knowledge but my brother owns a big part of it. No climbing there, but hang gliders use it.
Thought about taking a pick-up truck full of soil and add to the top to piss of the locals. Then it would be the world's smallest mountain.
