Here are some of mine 1. Helps to keep you feeling special being a rockclimber,(-good for the ego) 2. They always want more photos of you climbing 8) 3. For Birthdays and Holidays you can say an inflated price for gear and ropes,( so you can get a larger gift certicate at REI) 4 No matter if you do a 5.3 or a 5.10 they think its hard :P 5. They can do errands and cook food for you while your at the crags, (you're just to busy to be bothered with the mundane.stuff) 6.They forever ask( "Aren't you Scared, Afraid of Heights" )and say ("You must be so strong".) . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's Yours :?: :?:

they're allways so envious. i dont know how many times i get this from all my non-climber friends: "Man, I wish i was that strong" or "I wish I was as strong as you." or "I wish I could climb like you." (but that's what i've always been saying to my climbing partner ) And when you come in to school with your new comp t-shirt, people ask you about it, and are always so interested in how it all went!

you're so strong...you must be in such amazing shape...you should have a sponsor... those are my favorite things they say...egoboost... :D my fave things they do, however... say "i can do that!" and leap on the rock...immediatly falling on their ass. when i take them to a gym to try it for the first time they bring their biking helmet. i think it's funny...especially when they're my weight lifting guy friends and they cant haul themselves up the wall...even with all their big muscles. ah well....all friends are good.

You can be reminded that climbing is really just steep hiking.

i have non-climber friends cause theyre cool people, not cause i get an ego boost out of their compliments. I'm not into climbing for the compliments or the ego boosts. If someone else isnt into climbing, it doesnt mean theyre a worthless person and aren't good enought to be my friend. That's just kinda elitist and sick.

I like my non-climbing friends because it amazes me when they are amazed by finding out at my age I can still send 5.4 sport routes. Bill

How about it doesn't matter who they are. Why would climbing make you feel special next to non-climbers? Climbing isn't life, just part of it. Are we shallow, enigma? How about this. Being a climber doesn't make you better than anyone. As a matter of fact, I have a friend that is a medical scientist and he just "invented" a way of telling if your child (fetus) has MS and a few other things. I think being a climber sucks compared to that. I don't know. Because non-climbers are just as cool.

I also believe its a bit if a lady puller  Having said that my best mates in the world are all climbers too, I think its just another dimension to our mateship.

If everyone you know spends all their money on climbing gear, it is hard to buy really necissary things like food. Knowing people who don't climb is a good way to keep from starving yourself for cams. I mean, otherwise, all we would eat would be powerbars, right?

It was because of my non climbing friends opening up new worlds for me that I got into climbing. They took me to Yosemite for the first time and I saw people climbing on El Cap through my binoculars. That sparked an interest and two years later I took up the sport. I love to climb, but I also realize that there is more to life. There is too much out there to be discovered.
