Actually that's tons, because the only person I personally know here at school that can do even fifteen is me. I haven't tried myself in a long time though, so I don't know my limit. :P

Last time i tried to see how many pull ups i could do, i did 15. That was about 4 months ago though, the day after a pumpy climbing workout. Are we talking swinging around, kicking legs, only-going-down-halfway pullups or completely static, arms/shoulders completely relaxed at the bottom, head fully above the bar pull ups? See, if you get a rhythm going where you use momentum from the previous pullups, you can get a lot of pull ups in...however, when i do pull ups, i do them pretty slowly, with a focus on form/quality, so that i can get a good workout. Also, are we talking wide grip or close grip? If you want a real challenge, try doing pullups with your legs in an L hang position the whole time. I can do maybe 8 or 9 L-hang pull ups.

I bouldered with a guy in Moab that could just climb circles around me. When we got done we went over to this mushroom shaped rock and finished off wish pull-ups. I did twice as many pull-ups as he did and I did them all slow, full and bringing my legs up in an L at the top. It don't mean much. I'd trade the extra pull-ups for his balance and contact strength.

Depends. When? When I was in shape, or now that I'm 20ish pounds overweight? Then: 215-220 pounds; probably 30 all at once, but I used to incorporate them into my work-outs so I did three sets of 15. Now: 2*ahem*50; probably only 15-20 before I would have to stop and that's probably a favorable estimation. I was never one of you skinny, 140 pounders that could do 100. 215-220 (and especially now) is a lot of weight to pull up.

I didn't see that. Yeah, I don't believe the 56 one arm pull ups. Even 56 standard pull ups is hard for anyone. Hell, I've got friends in the Marines that can do that, but it ain't easy for them. Even when I was in tip-tip shape, benching 300, squatting 450, deadlift @ 375, not to mention the cling and jerk, all the pull downs I could do with over 100 pounds, etc. I still couldn't do more than 30 all at once and no more than 5-10 one armers. Now, no chance!

Well, they aren't that huge. They were larger, but I'm only 5'10"-5'11" and (when skinny) 215-220 pounds. So, I'm kind of a squat package. The shorter you are and the less distance you have to travel, the easier it is to lift. Granted, I couldn't do 450 anymore. Well, maybe, but I sure as hell wouldn't try. That was when I was 17 or 18. I'm 29 now. I weight lift, but not power lift anymore. The joints don't like it too much so I keep the weight down. Besides, I'm built for power and I'm trying to change that. Need more endurance. You can climb longer. I'm also trying to lose weight cause I'm currently a fat pig. :D

what about doing pullups with weight added? i used to start with 15lbs then do 4-6-8-8-6-4 with a short (15-20 second) rest between sets take five minute break then do it again adding weight (5-10lbs). continue until dead actually adding weight to pullups doesnt make them incredibly harder, i was very surprised when i started. doing this twice a week and bouldering three days a week really helped me gain lots of power very fast, but not as much technique. i have since scaled down my workout to include more technique building.

this thread has nothing to do with technique/climbing ability...the question asks how many pull ups you can do. People get all in the mode of "pull ups have nothing to do with climbing ability"..get over it, how many pull ups can you do!

I can do about 20. I'm working on doing a 1 arm. Can Josephine really do 20? I know a couple of girls that can do 1 but that's it. If so that's impressive.
