You can camp in the parking lot with the locals. You can also camp down the road about 5 miles at the Buckhorn campground for a small fee. Watch out for bears in the campground, they were pretty bad last season.

Horse flats is a campground a little farther down the road and is a good bouldering spot if you are interested in bouldering. I think it's about 10-15 miles down hwy 2 from Williamson. I will probably be up there friday night, and maybe saturday night. I also read a thread that caligirl and some others will be camping at buckhorn on saturday night.

I was at Horse Flats last Sunday and there was one car in the lot, so you'll have no problems getting a site. Caligrl is at Buckhorn, and the parking lot is usually pretty fun and social. Have fun, and watch out for Sasquatch!

Definitely keep an eye out for the wildlife. For whatever reason, they seem to be coming into the campsites a bit more often these days. As for Horse Flats, grabbing a site there has rarely been an issue, except for the occasional morning wake-up from the singing at the youth group campground nearby.

What's the beta for Horse Flats? Which direction down the highway, how much does it cost to camp, and how is the bouldering? I'm thinking of Williamson this weekend and would like a place to stay... Josh

In reply to: Is is east or west of Williamson, and is it on highway 2? It is west of Williamson, off Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Highway). See the link above for exact directions.

Horse Flats is about 15 miles South-West (closer to La Canada) of Williamson. If you go to HF make sure you get the beta on which trail to take to the bouldering area. My first time there I took the wrong trail and went about 2 miles looking for a rock big enough to climb.

lol!! Kristi! It's Charlotte! (From the bouldering comp in SB!) I didn't know you were here too! Tripper: Never saw this thread until tonight! lol So I was unaware of the "bear problem" lol...needless to say, after getting close enough to one to smell it on Saturday night, no more PB&J in the tent! I wish I would have known you were going Friday, I would have met up with ya! Check out the Western Area partners forum from time to time ;) Look forward to seeing ya next time you're down here! (I'm going to SB this weekend for some downtime ;)) :) Cali
