no kidding - i am pretty lucky though. the jackasses didn't take a mountain hardwear rainjacket that was in the trunk & thankfully right before I left the house I took all of my other gear out, otherwise I'd be music-less, gear-less, and hope-less. ha. anyways, learn the lessons - 1) ATL is ghetto, breaking into a car in daylight? 2) keep a piece of foam in your trunk so you don't get your arse shredded by glass 3) driving in the winter time w/o a window sucks.

I also got my Pathfinder broken into when I was there... They popped one of the windows in the back, but the alarm must have scared the little trolls away, as nothing was taken. Good thing, as Nick (nbrown) and I left our wallets in the car, along with CDs, Radar Detector on the dash, etc... Cost $180 for a new little window though. :(

nope that wasn't me mine happened yesterday around 5pm sting operation would be amazing. judging by how many people it has happened to, it sounds like it is the same people coming back every time. also, i think it would be a good idea to put a sign up warning new climbers of the break-ins - it might keep the punks away too if they know everyone is watching for them. Maybe a street light too - it gets damn dark damn fast.

i know i've seen the jerkoffs who were doing it b/c i came up one day and they were clearly casing a few cars. i could've taken any two of them at once but i just smiled at them real big as i pulled my hunting knife out of my truck and clipped it to my belt... this sucks, it makes me really not want to go back ever.. thirty minutes to boat or two hrs to rocktown... bleh

Just thought that maybe somebody should point out that the theives are local kids on bicycles. What they do is they send a lookout up into the woods to see if anybody is nearby. My recomendation is that if you are there alone or if it's getting late to move your climbing to an area near the parking lot. You can observe your car good from the easy crack area. One other thing, if you see anything suspicious take a picture. it can be used to make an arrest.

My car was also broken into at Boat Rock. December 11, I had taken my last final before Christmas break and decided to do a little evening bouldering. I was just finnishing up when someone came in and asked if I owned the res jeep in the lot, and said that it had been broken into. A few weeks later Some friends and I caught the little bastards in the act of breaking into some guys car from Michigan. We then chased them into a house and called the cops.

Looking at the parking lot from the road, it's the second house to the left. Did I mention that we chased them brandishing firearms. Gotta love the south.

I got an idea: They have new type of paintball that releases pepper gas when it explodes. Everyone that has paintball guns, we can take turns hiding in the brush. If anyone tries to break into any cars we hit them with as many of those paint balls as we got. After a few weeks of that there should be no one breaking into cars there.
