Do you mean permanent? No, but I have a back injury that has had long term effects. I'm frekishly lucjy when it comes to fractres and severe injuries. I almost broke my shin on the stairs playing with my cat yesterday, but managed to come of with only a scratch and a bruise.

I messed up the cartilage in the middle joint of my left long finger. For a while thought that i'd never climb anything again- I couldn't even tie my boots. Accupuncture helped alot as did Glucosamine and MSM. It's still sore and totally effects the way I climb. I can climb outdoors ))) but climbing in the gym is pretty much not an option - with the exception of short routes with rounded slopers. I'm still worried about it turning to osteoarthritis.

Tell me about it. I'm still trying to figure out why it's such a problem. Maybe it's because the long finger is the strongest. Part of it may be that i'm a website designer and spend at least 8 hrs usually more on computer. The upshot of this is that it has made me a more careful climber - I rarely grab madly for holds anymore. I climb more sideways than frontal and concentrate much more on my footwork to make up for the fact that I can't need to be careful of my left hand.

I messed up my right shoulder and kind of my left one before Christmas last year, I still have to severly warm them up or I ache.

I WILL have arthritis in my fingers, and possbly my shoulders later on, but it's got to catch me first..[grin]

over 20 major accident's in my 20 years of living. some of them are:

-broke: my leg, ankle, wrist, arm
-attacted by a bear
-hit by lightening
-tore miniscus and ACL in right knee requiring 3 major surgeries when i was 17
-tore miniscus in left knee in June and just had surgery last week
-80 foot ground fall in the VRG in AZ last year, $30,000 medical bill and helicopter rescue
-bashed my chin open in Rifle last summer and needed a whole s--- load of stitches

that's some of the things that have happened to me just off the top of my head. i've been forced to take 18 months off of climbing since i started 5 years ago!!!! if i never got hurt i would be climbing way harder by now. (i was peaking right when i hurt my knee a month ago, now i'm fat and weak!)

climb safe.

i've learned from my past coaches that taking in nutrients is only half, another important part of any sport is strengthening yer body by training properly do away with that no pain no gain theory, sports science has proven it ineffective (and dangerous).

hey you can't climb if you can't even get out of a hospital bed right

so that averages out to be: 17.923 times a year, so sometimes once or twice a month in Emerg. and in surgery 3.69 times a year, or once every 3-4 months.....Since birth, which doesn't include down days to heal and recoup or something silly like that. You climb constantly, backpack continuously (you would have to to keep up with your stories of climbing and packing all over the world) and counsell at a camp all summer? When do you go to school? Sleep? Eat? Breathe?

Sorry we dont use metal, only titanium in hips. The knees are not covered in metal,it is all a synthetic plastic/nylon that is both stonger and more durable than metal ever was.You most have been injured in Nepal or somewhere and had them replaced in communist china. Having been putting these in for over 10years i should know. Once again kitty.....well ,you know.
