Well damn if the weather Sunday didn't warm up nicely! But of course by then, I figured everyone was gone. So I went and hiked up to Highlander Crag in Clear Creek. Anyone climbed up there yet? It's pretty cool looking, let me tell you. The two aretes on the butress up there are very neat. And the hike up is not bad at all. Not too steep and it took me no time at all to get there. Got some Camp Ice Rider crampons on closeout at the Bent Gate in Golden for $60. They have anti-balling plates included. Two pair left if you need some.

After work climb this week...anyone? I was thinkin GOG should be dry Tue. or Wed. and I'm ready for some warm temps and a little climbing.[ BTW Skibabeage, Loveland and the Corn Harvest was great on Sat.(in case you weren't there)maybe a few of the RC.com folks can make it out next year. What a great time and good snow as well. There will be an Avy Jam at the Colorado Climbing Hdqs. in Golden this fall I'll keep you posted.

No prob with the fishing stuff you'll be casting like a pro in no time. Larry glad to see you made it back in one piece. I would not mind hitting elevenmile tomorrow, I'll call you tonight. Oh and I did get your message last night but it was kinda late thats why I did'nt call back. I'll probably be going to Palmer park or Cheyenne Canyon after work for some biking if anyone is interested.

BTW, been thinking about a week long CO road trip lately and being new to CO could use some recommendations on destinations. Here's what I'm hoping for: - Camping close (primative, backcountry, car... whatever) - Fly fishing close for a rest day or two - Bouldering close in case partners are tough to find - Some partners from the this thread that might be interested in going? - Mostly sport, cause I haven't learned to lead Trad yet, but would be up for Trad if I could hook up with a leader Any suggestions appreciated, KT

Hello all, I'm new to the boards (obviously, from the single-digit number of posts :) ). I'm looking for any kind of climbing in the Denver/Boulder area (I don't mind driving farther north or south, though), but I'm low on gear. I'm looking for people I can learn trad with, but I'd like to just get out on the rocks (bouldering, sport, trad, gym only if weather is bad). I am probably in the 5.8 range, but I don't have much experience with placing pro, leading, etc. and I would like to learn (that is, more than what you can get in books, which I have and have read). Thanks, Paul

hey crazyfingers...check out 11 mile...some of the best fly fishing in the state...tons of routes..about 30% are sport and the rest are trad...Good bouldering...about 5 campgrounds...If you are going low budget let me know and I can give directions to free camping on blm land about a mile from the climbing...I might be heading up tomorrow with rob..I went to turkey rocks today and I'm wore out...That is definately the place to hone your crack climbing skills...next time I will bring more tape because my hands look like hamburger...anyway, let me know when you are planning your trip and I'll see if I can make it...I'll be up at 11mile for a week the second week of may for work and climbing...

Thanks COclimb, I'll check it out. Schedule wise I've been thinking late August early Sept. I'll do some homework and post some ideas, definitely thinking low budget. Thanks for the tip, KT

Crazyfingers, I do quite a bit of fly-fishing and I would have to suggest the Taylor river in Gunnison. The trophy waters located just below the resivour hold some of the biggest browns and rainbows I've seen in Colorado. You usually have to use small flies in the size range of 22-24. I havent done any climbing down there yet but have looked at some of the routes which look really fun (multipitch in the black canyon). Everyone I have talked to that has climbed there definatly suggests it. If you decide to go there let me know, I'd be interested. Rob

Saturday: Anyone wanna do Gray's Peak or Torrey's Peak if the weather is acceptable? Any recent word on the avalanche conditions? I've got 3 weeks left, and I want a 14'er before I go.

In reply to: Check to see if CR 321 out of Bakerville (access road to Grey's/Torrey's, and a north facing road) is even open. If not, it'll mean a 5 mile slog uphill just to get to Steven's Gulch trailhead. Otherwise, check to see it's open to Chihuahua Gulch out of Keystone. Either way, once on the trail it'd be a ridge-walk the entire way. But why not Bierstadt or Quandary? Roads are open to both trailheads. No real reason... just an idea. Bierstadt and Quandry are both viable options. You wanna join in, skibbs? You, Timstich, and myself. Think of it: You get to spend the day with two young, macho, manly men. The women at work will be sooo jealous.
