I trialed this before I bought a Petzl I'D (which is less expensive). It works great and is extremely adjustable, but it weighs a ton and is kinda complex. Took me a while to get my head around all the bits and bobs before I felt like I could try it out.
For large (rescue) loads, there's nothing that compares. I've seen tests that have all but destroyed all of the belay devices, except for this type of device from SRTE. Importantly, after the most strenuous of these tests (11kN shock load) the device could still be used to lower off. All other devices jammed under the same conditions.

I probably use this in very different circumstances to most (entertainment rigging), and it suits the task very well. The main reason I bought it was for the toothless cam - far less wear and harder to jam the rope by pulling the knot into the pulley cheeks. The finish is a tad rough and it's kinda large too, but the titanium keeps the weight down and boy does it look cool!
Although it is not relevant to my application of the device, it seems as though there is a major issue with shock loading this type of cam, be sure to check out <A HREF="http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/crr_pdf/2001/crr01364.pdf">this document before deciding to buy the Hogwauler or any similar device.

Works well, sits flat if you can get your harness sorted properly. Mine withstands quite a bit of abuse as it's always attached to the front of my harness while I crawl around in the roof trussing.

I use it for anti-return hauling combined with the Petzl Fixe pulley. These two seem to be made for each other!

Only downside is those damned teeth! Rope can get jammed if you haul the knot up again the pulley cheeks.

The nit-pickers among us will notice that it's not really like a Croll because it has very different attachment points and hence a multitude of different uses. The Croll is a one trick pony.

Yeah, it can be a big and slow pain in the butt, but the locking facility is cool, if only from a peace-of-mind perspective.

Swing the handle around and stick it in park, then work away to your hearts content knowing that you won't slip an inch regardless of how much you're bouncing on it.

Only really useful if you need the lock feature and never can quite trust your tie-off knot remembering skills!
