About Mt. Andromeda:

3450 m -- this is another of the most popular mountains in the Rockies sporting relatively easy routes like Skyladder, as well as the testpiece Andromeda Strain. It should be noted that the rock is typically of poor quality, and that climbers should take caution to avoid rockfall. Many more routes on the North Bowl exist than those reported in Dougherty's Selected Alpine Climbs... pick a line, any line.
Nearest town or city: Columbia Icefields
Directions: Park at the climber's pullout on the Icefields tourbus road. Walk towards the bus parking lot - there is a trail about 100 m before the lot that trends left - follow morrains to the glaciers. For NE face routes a trail leads to the base of the AA glacier, for those in the N bowl follow morrains to below the bowl. Either descend your route (ie. an *option* for Skyladder), or descend the E ridge. The ridge will drop into the AA col (two rappels), downclimb or rappel from the col (beware the quality of some stations). There is a pin belay above the schrund.
