About El Potrero Chico:
| AMAZING climbing from 5.6 to 5.14. there is enough climbing here for a lifetime, and enough untouched five start rock for the enthusiastic First Ascentionist to bolt new lines for the rest of his life! This place is praised for it's multi-pitch sport routes, but the single pitch routes can compete with those of Southern France and Spain!! The cost of living is so cheap you can live comfortably for less than $70 a week, and it is one of the only area's to climb at that you do not need a car to get to the crag. Other areas within driving distance include the Culo De Gato (Cat's Ass) 20km, La Husteca in Monterrey about 50km. Mexico is not "Overhyped". Strong climbers that have visited and loved it include: Steve McClure, Tommy Caldwell, and Dave Hume, not to mension it is where Kurt Smith has choosen to reside (not anymore though). Bring warm clothes because even though it is Mexico, it can get cold (40 degrees one day, 85 the next). I would also recomend wearing comfortable climbing shoes and maybe bringing another pair for back up; the rock will eat your shoes! |
