Is there anyone that wants to do some bouldering this weekend on Haycock Mountain?
I can go saturday or sunday as long as my shoulder is feeling alright
Haycock is south of allentown, north of philly
If you haven't been there before, thats fine I can show you around.

As far as I know it has not. I talked to the climber who had changed the old shuts to the Metolius Rap anchors and he suggested that I not add the quick links because they have a tendency to twist the rope when it is pulled through. ( :?: ) Then I suggested that I add a couple links of chain to both along with the quick links but his point again is that it might be difficult for the n00bs to clip into the dangling chains whereas one would think they should clip directly into the rap anchors but try to clip the chains.
My original point was that I've seen many people TRing directly off of the new rap anchors, not the best of situations. I did notice someone’s comment concerning one of the anchors was lose, I have not noticed this so perhaps it has been tightened.
FWIW:
In the realm of good, better & best it is always best to rap from anchors like the ones now installed on I2C and not lower or TR directly from them.

Hey DONTFALL....I was going to go tommorrow, but if it rains tonight the rock will be wet.
My friend and I are planning on going to Haycock mt. this saturday, weather will be better i think.

I have heard it...
but I figure that if I work on some hard problems "frictionless", then come fall or winter I'll send them with ease
besides, i haven't had any trouble with poison ivy, deer ticks, getting lost, or lack of friction...
and not to mention the only other place for me to climb is the gym and that gets boring, haycock is down the road from my house

Hey PA folks. I'm looking to move (back) to PA in a year or so, and I'm wondering if any of you can make a suggestion or two about where to move. My (our) priorities include affordable housing, proximity to decent (roped) climbing, within 2-3 hour drive of awesome climbing (ie gunks or seneca), and a lively area (like a college town or artsy area).
We have been considering the Pittsburgh area, and wondering about south central PA as well. Northeast PA has gunks proximity, but doesn't seem to have much liveliness.
I know this question is worthy of its own thread, but your PA thread seems to be gaining steam so I'd like to solicit your opinions. Posts or PMs are appreciated.

NorthEast may not have the best liveliness but there is enough if you look around and get to know the area. NorthEast has plenty of climbing, others may not agree but I have taken advice from a local and a good buddy who lives up north in the Scranton area. Just look around and you will find plenty of stuff to climb. The Gunks is is a 2 hour drive, if that. Hope this helps some....PM me if you have any ???'s

and if you like to ski or ice climb... northeast isn't bad (isn't good to N. E. in comparison) but decent. Can't speak for S.W. PA. Lots in the Dbase.
W of the TP tunnels is a whole other state it seems.

The nw part of the state does have some climbing. Check out the routes data base. There are several small places around connellsville/ uniontown. McConnells mills is north of Pittsburg and is toproping, there is also toproping at derry. Coopers rock outside of Morgantown, Wv. has a lot of toproping and plenty of bouldering. Seneca and the new river gorge are both about 3.5 to 4 hours from Pittsburgh.

Just curious as to where people believe are the better bouldering spots in northeast PA. Personally haven't been able to climb enough around the area to be a good judge.

Thats seems like a thread in-and-of-itself. I'd suggest creating a new one.
But the long and short of it is, talk to roclimb. It also depends on what you're defining as NE. Poconos? Scranton? Hazelton? Different answers for each I suppose.

hey orange, I just moved from PA to MA, i went to school in the Poconos, great place for climbing at the De water Gap, ricks rock, jersey rock gym is close by, north summit is close by, gunks are 1 45 away, white water hiking, mountain biking, ski resorts, you name it the poconos has it if not its really close by
Living is super cheap.
Another area i lived in PA was york area i grew up in king of prussia.
York area has bigger better climbs close by living is cheap
k of p area, gettign growded, more $$$ to live--not alot of climbing, except for at PRG or take the drive to doylestown rock gym
if you like the sticks move up to the pocono's (jim Thorpe is beaaautiful!!!)
more urban move to k of p area(outside of Philly) Country living move to harrisburg/york area for best climbing go to york or the poconos
