I loved this route, but I didn't think it protected very well. Williams' "Gunks Select" rates it PG, but I thought the first pitch might merit an R. I had to sling a flake to protect the crux moves on the first pitch, and I wasn't happy about it. Otherwise, a fall would have hit the ledge. The protection on the second pitch wasn't great either, since most of the flakes didn't seem very strong, but at least the fall was cleaner. Some friends from the gym say that they top-rope the second pitch after leading Arrow.

Finally did the second pitch. The hard moves are right off the ledge. After the traverse, it's standard Gunks corner. I struggled through the crux on the first pitch again. Next time I'll get it right. The other difficult section near the top of the first pitch didn't seem so hard this time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this route. I thought the overhang was harder than the crux. It was hot today, so I'm glad we got an early start.

Breaking in a new partner today. Picked some familiar routes that I wanted to revisit. Climbed straight up the face on the second pitch. Not a lot of pro - some runout. I was more comfortable with it this time though, now that I've led some harder routes.

Led the whole route this time. I still don't like the protection on this route. The leader of the party ahead of us felt the same way. Runout through the corner on the first pitch and after the overhang on the second pitch. I did enjoy the route more this time. Probably since the weather was better, and I didn't feel the pressure that I did while I was leading with Adam as my partner.

The rock was still wet this morning, with all the rain we've been having this spring. The beginning moves were easily a grade harder (and maybe two) because of the conditions. We bailed after the first pitch because it was such a struggle. It's a great pitch though.

A classic! I thought the first pitch protected well, but nevertheless had my partner keep a taut belay. Managing the first pitch belay was an art. Traverse on second pitch didn't protect well (nice crack but unstable rock). Lots of pleasant moves throughout.

Third time and still haven't gotten to do the second pitch! Chris wanted to quit for the day after the first pitch. I think we'll get back on this next time....

John's third lead and he handled it like a pro! Nice dangle from the overhang, John...(show off!)

I didn't think this route merited the three stars Williams gives it in the "Select" guide; I'd give it two. It is his route though.... The first pitch crux is right off the ground, and I had a tough time finding the foothold for it. Damp rock didn't help.
