4 out of 5 stars good Banff cragging

An enjoyable route on good stone. The crux is quite different than the generally slabby moves found on the rest of the climb.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Bugaboo

There's a reason this is one of the "50 Classics" -- a truly stunning climb. The NE Ridge itself has great rock, nice moves, and stunning views. Somewhat devious route finding on the traverse to the south summit. Very cool exposure. The descent of the Kain Route is OK, but tedious. The Bugaboo-Snowpatch Col was dangerous due to numerous parties, deteriorating snow conditions, and rockfall. 12 hours round trip to the Kain hut.

5 out of 5 stars ridge runner's paradise

Another Bugs classic. The smooth sections of ridge are almost beyond words. We started Pigeon from a large dihedral on its south face, and had to weave between substantial crevasses before jumping on rock. We were uncertain how many previous parties ascended our "route", which probably went at "5.4 with a few odd spots of 5.11". Once reaching the true west ridge, the climbing became sublime. Snow and ice on the rock from a prior storm added a little spice to a couple sections near the true summit. I highly recommend the West Ridge route to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars great alpine cragging

Very high quality route on great rock. A crack climbing delight -- fingers on the crux pitch and hands on most of the other pitches. Highly recommended for questionable weather days.

Challenging moves through the last three bolts, with a committing clip at the crux. The rock quality at the start isn't the best, but it improves higher on the route.

I did the wimpy 11a variation by moving slightly left at the 2nd bolt. Maybe someday I'll figure out how to do the direct 11d moves.

A challenging route -- fairly sustained, a roof, a wide stem, and thin moves on slabs. A 60 meter rope is mandatory to rap back to anchors. Fun exposure and a pretty decent route.

I followed the route in 2003. The 7th clip is spooky and the move through the roof is challenging for shorter climbers. A fun climb -- not your typical sport clip up.
