About Delaware Water Gap (Mt. Minsi):
Pennsylvania and New Jersey's biggest and best multi pitch traditional climbing area. This page refers to Mt. Minsi on the Pa. side of the Gap. For Mt. Tammany go the New Jersey section. Over one hundred climbs most of them multi-pitch. With spectacular situations and easy access this area is one that will provide a lifetime of adventures. In addition to Mt. Minsi, Mt.Tammany in New Jersey holds another hundred or so routes, many of them considered authentic "test pieces" for their grade, the maximum so far being in the 5.12 range. This area has a strong traditional ethic of being a "ground-up" area, there are no sport routes at the Gap and the use of motorized drills is illegal. A few of the belay ledges and rappel stations are bolted on the more popular routes. Try not to clip into any old pitons on the NJ or PA side.Cleaning routes on rappel of loose rocks, dirt, and grass is encouraged. Helmets are MANDATORY when climbing at the Gap!
