I'm short and skinny. 5 9", 150, low body fat. I still think I am better at power moves than regular climbing.

I haven't been climbing for all that long. I am nearly 30 about 5'10 and 210. kind of a fat lil fella. I am losing some weight slowly, lost about 12 lbs in the past 5 weeks. wnat to get down to about 170-180. I consider myself pretty strong, do alot of physical work. unfortnately the most of my strength is not in my upper body :(

I'm 13 years old and i'm 5 feet tall and I weigh 76 pounds.
I think I have a +1 ape index
I'm not too bad at overhanging routes. I have trouble with reachy moves, but I have small fingers so anything with tiny holds is good for me. :D

My body type: skinny, but not too sticklike. 5'10" 140lb.

Flexible in the hips but not the hamstrings. Also there is passive and active (static and dynamic) flexibility. Climbers benefit more from active flexibility. Think of a wide stem, you need to be able to get there and hold it.

Speaking of flexibility:
In reply to:
Did you know that the more flexible you are the less muscle you have and vise versa???

That's a myth. Find a burly martial artist, they'll still be flexible.

Or take American Olympic Weightlifter / Powerlifter Shane Hammon. He's 370 lbs! He can dunk a basketball, do a standing back flip, squats more than 1000 lbs AND can do the splits.

In our sport, Lynn Hill and especially Tiffany Campbell are counterexamples to your statement. Flexible, muscular men also exist, they tend to be more rare. I'd argue it is because of nurture not nature. We are lazy, we don't stretch, thus we are tight.

Short & skinny? That's average height. It's my height too. I weigh less than you, and I'm fat.. ...ter than last year anyway.

Smallest one I know, 5.0', 115lbs. Ex-gymnast so I have wicked flexibility that makes up for the lack of height. Pretty good strength but the biggest weakness is reach, you have to be a lot more creative when you have to add an extra move or two to reach a hold over your amazon sized friends!

dredging up an oldie huh?
Well, since i didn't reply before, i'll throw in my 2 cents...
Before I deployed I was climbing 3-5 times a week at the gym and outdoors 1-2x a month. I could do gym 5.9+ and worked through a .10a a time or two. Then i weighed about 190-195. Now i deploy, and work out semi-regularly... but i gained 15 pounds. I thought you were supposed to loose weight in the desert and 120 degree heat. Oh well.
Oh and i'm 5'10 and probably a negative ape index... never measured.

6'2", 175, not sure on Ape index. Good core, arm, shoulder, leg strength. Working on fingers, haven't been into the climbing that long(< 12 months). Not much in the way of excess baggage on the body. "Strength" training with free-weights keeps me powered up a bit. I'd probably be a better climber if i dropped the weights from my routine (or if i developed some ACTUAL TECHNIQUE)...hard to ditch the habit though.

Man I guess that I'm just a huge fat F@#k!
I'm 6'2" and weigh in at 220 lbs. I'm thick in the chest and back area, have power houses for legs so I'm told with Diamonds forged for calves.

I'm not sure what that means other than I break weakling and eat the flesh for breakfast while still being a fat ass-ed slob.

I am 6'2" with a 6'5" arm span. I weigh 185 and have about 7% body fat which isn't much. I have the physical attributes that are supposed to be good for rock climbing but I still suck. Poor balance, I don't know what goes where, my feet are always crossed up and in the wrong place. I guess I just have all the regular problems encountered by beginners but am working through them. Trust me, being in good shape isn't nearly as important as knowing what you are doing. I am envious of almost everyone else I watch climbing!

6.0', 150 lbs, 6% body fat. Yep, I'm farking tall and skinny. Ape Index of +2. I'm 35. Haven't been climbing very long (just under a year) but lovin' it - thank you to the gods who pushed me into the sport. I prefer bouldering and love overhangs and dynos (woohoo!). Most of my strength is upper-body. I'm working on the leg strength. Right now I lack the stamina for really long climbs, but I'll get there...unless I keep getting distracted by those darn boulders. The only time my height seems to be detrimental is in low crouch starts.

Prune.

That's what the wife says.

5'7" and 170 lbs.

Edited to add that I'm striving to be a "Raisin" body type. I'm losing weight. AS a prune I still can get up (lead) most trad 10's on lead (except for offwidths perhaps).

As a raisin I might be able to lead 11's.

5' 4", 143lbs.

and I think I have a 0 APE index.

Should I be climbing at all?

So long fellas.

I'm at the other end of the scale here, Acro. 6'2" and 210lbs. And while I have a substantial ape-factor (making XXL the only size of clothes that reach to my wrists), intermittent bouts of carpal tunnel and anxiety attacks make climbing a very interesting endeaver for me. I don't give a crap. It's fun. I don't need to be good at it.

I also enjoy, and equally suck at, trail running and mountain biking. After 15 years of heavy smoking, any activity makes me feel like a winner.
