Dude, guitar man, I feel your pain. 6'4" and 270. I went with the Corax harness from petzel, but finding pants/shorts to climb in is hard. I have a hard time finding somebody to give be a lead catch too, as we don't have anchors on the floor in our gym's lead area. A fall usually results in an inadvertent extreme dynamic belay from my poor partner. Check this one out, thirty-five foot wall, knot three feet above the last clip (but below the anchors at the top of the wall), belayer had a bit of extra slack out, I fell and pulled my belayer above the first quickdraw (no, he didn't go through the draw, he went to it, and then kept going up until the draw was inverted) and I finished the fall about three feet below my belayer about five feet off the ground. Guess I played too much rugby in college. If you want to make sure no one messes with you in the bar after climbing, invite me or guitar man along for your trip. Climbers protection agency!

welp...
anorexic is a word i hear often.

I am 5"8+, 115lbs, and have an ape index of +3

stretchy, skinny, scrawny, slim, and hey my name is sumir.

i dont think my body type has affected my climbing in a huge way, but then again i can't compare. i've had this body for 30 years now.

although it does help some with gymnastic moves, flexible and light.

ROCK ON CAPCOM!!!!

I know what it's like to have belayers come off the ground. I just try not to watch them b/c it usually makes me nervous. Mainly when I am top roping and it takes another guy or two holding on to my belayer so we don't switch places.

Any body in Knoxville, TN want to get out and climb (and think they can belay me) pm me asap! The gym is loosing its excitement. lol :? :righton:

I'm shorter than your average and I'm only 14 so obviously I have difficuly with climbs that require a lot of height. I'm pretty skinny and am best on fingery, technical climbs as I'm not very strang and can't tank my way up a roof :P
ps I do have my weight on my side (45kg) wat ever that is in your american lbs :?:

I'm 5'6" or so, my reach is 5'9", but i have really really small fingers which is usually a blessing except in the cases of some pinches and some larger jam sizes. My strengths would be my power, both my dynamic and static are fairly honed, i pull the same levels slab or overhung. I can usually get though most reachy moves with my technique. I am also pretty flexible, especially for a guy... I guess my main weakness would be my endurance isn't up to par, i can usally onsite most 512-'s as long as there under 85 feet long, any longer and it gets dicey, i can usually onsite most V6's and have sent a couple of V9's, i guess i could work on my core-strength a bit more, i can barely pull into a front lever much less hold it for anything longer than a second; but all well, its all about having fun so it doesn't matter if i suck.

5'7" - 170lbs (no it's not fat). I am better at short and powerful moves and find long moves/reaches sometimes more difficult than those who are even slightly taller than me. I don't lack in stamina.

Well, besides being pretty new to climbing, I'm 5'5", 140 lbs., which seems to be a pretty decent size, works well for me.

...

I also think I may be the only - if not one of few, girls who have posted so far..?

Here's another chick post to back ya up. I'm 5'4" and 170, which contrary to what you'd think doesn't put me in big girl sizes (I'm just drawn that way...). On a recent climb a friend coached me yelling "nose to your toes!" suggesting that you should always keep sight of where your feet are...I had to laugh. Riiiiight, try that with a rack (and I don't mean gear). Anyway, I'm surprised at what I can do given the extra load I'm carrying. I think I make up for what I lack in upper body strength with lower body strength, as well as pretty good flexibility. Becoming a massage therapist has strengthened my hands A LOT and I've recently gotten back into weight training, so hopefully I can improve my overall strength and stamina there.

Also, I just found out that I have a -2 ape index. That's so not cool.

I'm tall and fairly muscular: 6'4", 225 lbs. I have my most trouble on crimp holds and often find it difficult to support my body weight on small holds. Inverted climbs are especially difficult without big pocket holds, but I'm working on it. :)

Just wondering what body type you have, and how it affects your climbing.

I am tall and lean, and I have less trouble with long moves and long routes than my shorter friends, although their bodies are more powerful when it comes to bouldering, dynamic moves, or steep surfaces.

and you?

I'm 5'10 at 225 pounds. I'm mostly muscle. Hardest thing I have is doing heel hooks or having to raise my legs high to hook onto something. Other than that, I'm usually fine.

5'11", 125lbs

I have disproportionately long legs which are also very flexible so my advantage is long/high reaches for footholds. My weakness is strength. I seriously need to start weight training.

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 145/150 kgs...... ummm.... lbs (only after a month and a half of malnutrition while homeless in nyc... lost about 10 lbs... probably mostly muscle too... which sucks real bad)
Ape index: positive 1-1.5 inches... been a while since I measured

I can reach like crazy and my static power is through the roof... most moves that people hit dynamically or dyno through I can hit staticly (not all the time) and do it better staticly. Low body fat: 8-12% Id say. I tend to finess my way through climbs at my "limit" so I'd say Im somewhat proficient technically, though Im sure I have a lot to learn (and I learn a lot everytime I climb). Hardest boulder: v7... hardest redpoint: 12a... endurance is a major issue with me... but I boulder mostly anyway... clippin bolts and placing gear is just a pleasent diversion for me (the hyper gravity reality of trad is fun though... like bouldering with a backpack full of weights on).

cave / horizontal probs murder me (I think my height and reach might produce a lot more leverage than for shorter men and women... or maybe thats just some bullshit excuse)

5'11" (and a half, damn it, must grow a wee bit more!!!!!! It's annoying, being 5'11.5", kinda like how everything in the US is priced ending in .99, why not make everybody's life easier and round up? The 99 cent store is really just the dollar store!!!!!!! Sorry for the rant...)
uhm, about 170 lbs although I'm trying to keep that there and maybe a little lower
Ape Index of 1.5"
I seem to have a good balance of strengths, although my short, fat stubby little fingers can be a pain every so often...

well....I'm 4'11" (and 3/4) and 150 lbs...so i'm short and chubby...my worst problem is obvious...reaching the holds!!

I'm pretty sure this makes a 5.7 a 5.8 or even 5.9 depending on whether there is roof action or not.

However I still keep on climbing!

Power to the short ppl...cuz we CAN climb too

I am 6'4" 225 and trying my darndest to drop about 15 pounds. I have to agree that there are advantages to being this big in the area of skipping one or two holds that my wife (5'2") is forced to use, but i have also ran into some problematic moves for someone as lofty as I. Plus, I am pretty sick of people saying that because I am so big I obviously have more strength. My muscles are bigger because they have to be to get my a$$ off the ground. On the other hand, even though it might make climbing a little easier, I am glad I am not the 170 pound weakling I was in high school.

I dunno guys and gals, i think it really comes down to the size of the fight in the dog, if you'll allow the cliche.......

I have a sexy body type. It does make it kinda tough when you know your belayer is checking you out, rather than paying attention to belaying.

You sound kinda nice, wanna meet for coffee?

I think my bod has at least 150,000 miles on it. 5ft 3.5in with maybe a +.5 ape index 115# I'm pretty strong as I used to do some competitive body building and fairly flexible from many years of martial arts. Yes, I do make the "kiai" sound on the hard moves (and get teased for it) and the reachy moves are, well, reachy. I think what adversely has affected my climbing strength recently is lack of cardio exercise, so the endurance sucks. Also, I have never had very strong grip strength. Overall, I don't think the size is as important as how you use what you got
