chalkduster's Logbook (119 ascents)

Though this was a rad climb, it was cold and windy as hell. We didn't get any sun on it until about 10:30 or 11 AM. Very exposed and lots of fun, this was the highlight of my weekend.

Climbed the East Face & Fishhook this weekend and was a tad disappointed in the East Face. Sure, its a classic and I'm glad I have it under my belt, but not so sure about all those stars. And Peter Croft was right, there WERE "hordes of weirdos writhing around in some heinous group hug" atop. Mt. Russell was more secluded and quiet. Also, that descent down the Mountaineer's Route gully sucks. Usually, very judicious, my partner nearly sent a huge rock rolling down on me and I've never run so fast in my life to get out of the way of that thing. Mt. Russell's descent was more sandy, faster and fun.

Of course its hard to compare after such a great route as Fishhook - perhaps if we hadn't done that first, I would be more stoked.

Took my girlfriend up for her first multipitch route here. Thought it would be a good place to show her how it works and I'm glad I picked it because she became petrified and I had to do a bit of coaxing to get it all together. She did end up enjoying it though.

...to me. I was tired & thought I'd toprope it. Good call since I fell more than once and hung like a dog. Good climb though.

This was a good climb for me. Challenging & not too spooky.

Did this one in the morning, stayed nice & cool in the shade.

Quick & fun, but seemed a little more on the 5.8 side to me.

Thought I'd start slow to see what Smith Rock was all about. Good fun, but seemed a little light for a 5.7...

I did! Great fun, but where the hell does this route go after pitch 2??

Thankfully I had a more experienced leader. Routefinding would have been a problem for me.
