About Mt. Whitney:

The Mt. Whitney area is great for beginner mountaineers and experts alike. There are hundreds of routes on beautiful golden granite ranging from easy walk-ups to scary aid. You MUST get a permit at the ranger station in Lone Pine if you intend to do backcountry climbing and camping.
Nearest town or city: Lone Pine
Directions: Drive up(or down) U.S. 395 to Lone Pine. Head west on Whitney Portal road to Whitney Portal which is over 8000'.
