I seconded this route. I found the top headwall difficult for it's 5.5 rating. It was a very good climb. Jim setup our rope on the Planet of the Apes anchors.

Wow, the crux move is above the last bolt. I sliped off on my first try, but made it on the second try. This was a very good climb.

Great climb. The crux for me was at the bottom directly below the 1st bolt. This was my first 5.8 lead in a long time. I thought it was classic. I ran the rope through the anchors for a top rope and climbed it a second time while actually attempting to climb the next climb to the right.

Great route. On the 1st pitch the protection was a little thin in the middle. The 2nd pitch was great also; After headwall at the top of the 1st diheadral I kept going straight up a face (the protection was thin here also).

It was great! We camped at the Meadows, apox 4000 ft below the top, Got a little lost going around the Needle, but had no problems on the Ridge itself. I led the Golden stairs but only placed 2 pieces. Carl, my brother, had no problem on the Friction pitch, the crux. And my other brother, George, did his 1st lead ever on a section below the friction pitch; Carl free climed this section. We ran into a crowd on the 120ft rapple, but the Teton Mtn Guides let us alternate through. Also, on the decent, one of the Mtn Guides showed us the route around the Needle which we missed in the morning.

This was a great first Alpine Technical climb for my brothers and I. We avoided Snow and Ice by climbing a crack system to the left of the actual cable route, but I would rate it a 5.4 also. We decended the Keyhole route to check it out since we have never climbed Longs Peak before.

At my climbing level I was a little nerves at first, but it was no problem. I stuck to easier ledges on lead rather than going straight up (as my second did). I led the second pitdh Guillotine to finish up the climb.

On the second pitch, about 20ft up from the belay is a large bulge. I 1st attempted to go straight up on the right of the bulge but ended up cutting left and doing a layback move up the left side of the bulge. I'll get the straight up route one day.
