About Red River Gorge (Climbing):
|
MUIR VALLEY is privately owned. If, when they want to add routes to the online guide the owners and developers will do so. The landowners do not want their property's route information to be listed incorrectly, which has been the case with other areas in the guide. Do not add information to Muir Valley or it will be deleted. Also, please visit Muir Valley's Web Site for information on route closures. You must also fill out a waiver to climb there. Thank you for respecting the owners' property. For the latest on the Red, current access issues, and upcoming events, check out the RRGCC's enewsletter. The Red has a lifetime of routes... traditional and sport as well as a few aid routes. If you are into exposure then you will definately fall in love with the climbing here. The Red is also home to one of the toughest climbing organisations around, the Red River Gorge Climbing Coalition. They have been around since 1996 working with the NFS to keep climbing areas open. Please visit our Bouldering Page.
Climbers That Care - November 18 This is the second year climbers will be putting on this event that works to support local families during the holiday season. We'll be having music, movies, food, and gear! For the movie, we'll be showing Memento. Check out this site for a write up and the trailer. For more information, pm Paul3eb.
(I guess this only applies to rest days since you should be climbing at lunchtime)
Miguel's is the place to stay if your into hanging out with climbers. Miguel's serves up the best pizza in the world and hosts a Climber's Only campground in back. You can buy ~5 minutes of warm water for a dollar to take a shower there. Also, there is usually some locals out front trying some furniture bouldering problems during the evening. Cost is $2/person/nite. Can be a bit crowded and noisy on weekends.
Koomer Ridge Campground is 4 miles east of the Shell station in Slade. Hot showers included in heated bathrooms. Price is $12 for 2 cars/6 person site Whittleton Branch Campground and Middle Fork Campgrounds
