Description:

Grade II or III. Spectacular and unique route. Steeple is the prominent triangular pinnacle on the ridge, south of Haystack. Scramble up to the N. shoulder and rope up for 2 fun traversing 5.8 crack pitches along the west side of the ridge (this route can be very cold in the morning). Now for the wild part: downclimb into a notch, then enter the gaping chimney looming above you and tunnel up and then through the entire formation in two pitches, emerging on the SW side. From here an easy pitch leads up and left to the summit. Descent with 1 or 2 rappels to the south (2 ropes), then scrambling.

I absolutely loved this route. It was very cold the day we did it. Went into it thinking it would be more of a novelty climb, but all the climbing was really good and the chimney was pretty wild, though not too hard. The position on the ridge leading to the chimney is very cool.
