155 lbs of lean muscle on a 6 foot frame. Dark hair, blue (bedroom) eyes.

Body type: dead sexy.

It's served my quite well so far, in all regards.

5'10", 165lbs, body fat about 10%. Fairly muscular ectomorphic body.

Comes from being into weight training for 6 years before getting into climbing.

Was a challenge when starting - the extra power would make me skip technique, so really learning technique and getting it down was more difficult than for a "blank" beginner. I'd muscle through certain moves that I could've done much more efficiently in other ways. Now that I've gotten technique up to snuff, the power is just gravy. I'd call endurance my weak point at this juncture, but I've recently altered my gym training routine to deal with that soon enough.

I am 6ft and weigh about 150lbs which is actually the heaviest I have ever been. I am climbing at the strongest I've ever been, which isn't anything to amazing sadly.

I'm 5'4" and weigh btwn 101 and 108. My body fat percent's probably somewhere btwn 18 and 22. I find that being on the smaller side often makes it easier to get into positions that would be awkward for my taller friends. Also, having a small frame means I have small fingers so I can easily hold on to crimpers and match smaller holds that my guy friends have more trouble with. On the down side, I have less reach than others and some holds are just better if you can palm a basketball. Anything sort of overhang tends to be a lot harder for me (I go down at least full grade if in the cave at my gym) since I'm scrawny and have no upper body strength.

BTW, 2 year later update. I was a "Prune" body type, but am currently heading towards being a "Raisin" body type (that's a medical term used by medical professionals to identify old fat people or old thinner people) .

At one point I was up to @180#+ carried on a 5.7" frame. About the start of the year I gave up eating sugar and things with blatant sugar. (2 pints of Haggen Daz in an evening sitting and cokes for instance). Still do alcohol too.

160# now. My wife says it looks like I'm turning my pony keg into a 6 pack. Still climb about the same, @5.10 trad.

I feel better too, and have less of the aches and pains we all develop like tweaked tendons and things similar. I haul around Clif Bars and eat one whenever I feel the slightest twinge of hunger, so I'm not starving myself or anything, I still eat the very same things as before with the exception of sugar, but I will say that not eating sugar has made me more aware of the other , fattie kind of crap I use to (and still do to some extent) stuff down my gullet. :)

Perfect Climbing Physique :roll:

195lbs
8-9% Body Fat (Fluctuates)
almost a 6" Ape Index
Ex-Rugby PLayer / Muay Thai Kickboxer

Going on 4th surgery of the right shoulder (gotta love them lesions)

Like I said perfect for climbing hahahahahhahaha

5'11, 180 lbs.

My body just DOESN'T want to be less than 180 ! (maybe because I'm 45 freaking years old)

Good thing is ... 36" arms, I can reach anything.

Hey, what is the ape index ? My wife always says that I'm a knuckle-dragging neanderthal, so what's that worth ?

i particularly excel at: anything steeper than vertical (and slabs, but only in my tennies ... ;) )

I'm 17. 6'0,75 kg. I have fairly good upper body strength and finger strength ,but I don't have much endurance. My technique usually pulls me out of the tough spots.

6'4" 180, ape index of 0. Have great stamina but suck at power moves like dyno's or anything that requires a lot of back, or one arm strength. I'm starting to focus on bouldering instead of TR routes. My flexibility isn't horrible, but could be better.


the main thing holding me back is lack of experience/technique

I am about 5'7" and 165 lbs with an athletic-ish build and an ape index of around +4 is you go fingertip to fingertip. Can do power moves but try to use legs more and a big fan of the high step.

I'm still chuckling.....interesting and fun reading and some good insights from folks....
Myself....I'm short, about 25 pounds heavier than I want to be and I think my ape index is a negative! And on top of that I climb with a handicap...but who cares....it's fun and relaxing (now if I can only get rid of that excess pounds).
I find that the extra weight is hampering my abilities on steeper stuff...although I've never been good at steep (slab is my game!).

:lol: ha ha! I dream of being 5'10" and 180 lbs again!

I'm almost 36 years old, I'm 5'10" and last Christmas I weighed in at 237 lbs... Sometime in January or February I decided I needed to get back into shape and climb again... now I'm @ 211 and dropping slowly. Target: 180

How does it affect me? Um ... well, it makes it rather hard for my puny arms to haul my fat gut up the cliff... but it gets easier with every pound I drop. I did my best climbing when I was at about 175 (And 19 years old...)

I'm 5'9" with a +2 ape index. I weigh a scant 122lbs. I've been climbing for about three months now, perhaps slightly less, exclusively in the gym.

I'm pretty comfortable at 5.11a (3 recent onsights) and am thinking about starting to seriously work on 5.11b's. I boulder about v3. I climb about three days a week.

Overhung slopers are a weakness, but I think they probably are for most people. Working hard on sloper strength.

I've always been very self-conscious about my (to me, too low) weight. Participating in a sport that's often done shirtless has felt a little sketchy, but I feel like I'm doing pretty well for a noob. Incidentaly, when I started, I could scarcely do two or three pull-ups. I can now do easy sets of 15 and am working on doing one arm pull-ups. I feel and look stronger but haven't really put on any weight.

Ape Index- Compare your height with your wingspan fingertip to fingertip...arms are longer- positive ape index

5'10" Ape index is precisely 0 which I guess is better than negative, I weigh 132lbs, and the body fat % is a single digit...

Good for you mate. Hey don't sweat the weight thing, I did for a long time when I was kayaking competitively, it's funny how folks will rarely say anything to someone who is overweight because they are worried comments like "You could do with losing some of that weight" may offend but never think twice about how saying "You could do with a bit of meat on your bones" to someone who's thin.

You know I used to weigh 120lbs and it took me 18 months of solid training and 6 (large - often forced) meals a day to put on another 20lbs.

Keep climbing and you will gain strength and perhaps some muscle... PM me if you want to talk about how to increase your size a little.
