South Face
About South Face:
The South Face is where most of the action at Stone happens. Many of the most popular routes start from the Tree Ledge (see the Access Routes to Tree Ledge section), but a number of great climbs (e.g., The Pulpit, Grand Funk Railroad) start from ground level. Most routes that don't have natural protection are bolted, but be prepared for some scary runouts. Two ropes are necessary to rappel down. Also, be prepared to rap off a different route than the one you came up. |
Approach: | From the lower parking lot, take the trail following the signs to the Hutchinson Homestead. After passing the homestead, cross the large meadow on your left. Permit kiosk is found as soon as you enter the woods. |
