Description:

(A.k.a. Two Pines and a Stump - one of the pines was felled in a Nov. 2002 ice storm). Nice easy 3 pitch climb, has a 5.6 variation at the finish(a crack with a pin). Try the "dangler" 5.9 variation at the start of the third pitch.

4 out of 5 stars 3 Pines

Because we were pretty new at this leading thing, these 3 pitches literally took us all day. Building anchors and traversing safely can be very mentally taxing exercises.
I think I led the first pitch, Mike J. the second, and I followed up with the third, which was really hard to find without the book. The traverse was very exposed and a little dicey because I wasn't 100% sure if I was on route (I remembered some variations that I definitely did NOT want to get stuck on by accident).
In retrospect, it was a great climb, and I would do it again, maybe spending some time doing the alternate finishes. (not sure of the exact date of climb)

3 out of 5 stars three pines

Easy climbing with perfect belay ledges. I rapped off the second pitch - ran out of time. Next time i'll do the dangler!

4 out of 5 stars 3 Pines

Baby Vultures are cute and fuzzy. The last pitch up the corner near the Dangler was super wet! I belayed off the sappy tree at the first ledge. P2 Went up the corner to the GT ledge and was greeted by a vulture. I'm sure they are used to climbers but I was confused by the sign posted by the Preserve. So I traversed and built a gear anchor near the dangler. When I got there only had two small cams and nuts. But i made it work. P3 Went up the wet corner near the dangler to the rock platform wedge and tried to climb up the wet holds, got sketched up, placed more gear and then traversed right, above the dangler. Built an anchor off trees there. P4 up the slab and to the chains.
